Fire Coach Woodson Thread

He seems disinterested in the most important aspect of building a program. Imagine if Mgbako's mother hadn't reached out to Woodson? We may have literally never gotten involved. We probably took him without any assessment based on his rating alone. How will we ever field a team with a system or chemistry... or both?

He landed one stud in the portal last year. Because of the lack of recruiting, he's going to have to fill 4-6+ spots in the portal. If he's only going after ready made guys, you're banking on an awfully successful portal.

All the stuff off the court is as much a negative as the product on the court. But making the donors aware of that/fully appreciating it, is probably a tough task when they're getting counter narratives that support Woody based on false hope.

So I guess we're really going to give him 1 last go round, then have the next coach step into a truly bare cupboard situation.

Agreed... the donors and "movers and shakers" aren't here reading out posts, complaints and criticism... they are getting spoon fed from Woodson's camp (Buckner/Thomas/Kitchel) and they get the "spun" version of things like "young team" and "X was hurt for half of the season"... and of course nothing in the vein of  "X got hurt and Woodson had no backup plan"...

I would bet money on the fact that some influential people check out message boards at least occasionally to see the direction of the wind.  Now they probably do not post, but I would bet some are around

Sounds like Rabby just added a note on the Fland recruitment that will make some peoples blood boil.

A lot of people on Trilly's discord are speculating Dolson must have asked Rabby to unload on Woody.

Well after the "administration" (whoever that is/was) went to the blogs and asked them to rally behind Woodson, it's only fair, right?

Not sure it's anything more than the fact that he's an Akron boy... and the whole Ohio connection... I can't see anything else...

Just so I'm not confused....Dusty May is not an Akron boy. He graduated HS from Eastern Greene in Bloomfield IN and then graduated from IU. He has zero ties to any college coaching stints anywhere in the state of Ohio. I don't see the connection, unless Lebron just see the potential head coaching abilities of May at Ohio St.

If I’m guessing, he sees a young coach he thinks he’ll be able to manipulate.

The fact that Dolson is clearly not laying down without a fight gives me hope.

Other than that, I don't have much in the way of hope for IUBB right now.

Let's get it done Scott! Hoosier Nation is rooting for you lol

All of these reasons are exactly why it would make zero sense to bring Woodson back. I cannot fathom why this is such a "difficult" decision outside of QB and company wanting to keep their buddy at the helm. Bringing him back to just fire him next year and losing out on guys like Bruce Pearl, Scott Drew, or Dusty May would be inexcusable. They cannot afford to bring him back. He has no future with this program.

It also made zero sense to hire him at all 3 years ago... but that happened, and this crap probably will, too.

But you are correct... what's the point if Woodson gets sent packing next year? What kind of program and momentum can he build in one year if the past three are indicative of his level of expertise, his energy level and his promise to bring B1G championships and nattys?

Do we really think influential people read or care what message boards or Rabjohns thinks? I mean…I’ve been a message board guy for a long time, but I always assumed it was just regular folk like me chatting about basketball.  I find it hard to believe it sways anyone, but I could be way off on that.

With that said, seeing what I would consider athletic department friendly journalists open fire on Woody does make me think there’s a little smoke. I’m still sticking with my position that Woody is back, but if you’re losing the Peegs/Rabjohns and ITH’s of the world it’s probably not a great sign with regards to internal cohesiveness.

You might be amazed what people are swayed by.  That’s why we have literally thousands of media outlets pushing agendas.  It’s legitimately a strategy.

FWIW, I can tell you for a flat out fact that families of recruits and players read and post. Administrators and donors? I cannot say with certainty.

I look at it from the opposite direction. I don't think that Dolson, Whitten, or top donors follow this board or Rabjohns (though certainly some have read along at times).

However; Rabjohns needs access and information from the administration and coaching staff. When Rabby puts his chips in on a litany of problems with Woody, to me that's a reasonable indication that Rabby thinks he can do so without losing his access from next year's head coach. That pissing off Mike Woodson will be a moot point that will not be detrimental to him.

This. 100%. I don't think I've ever seen him go at it like this.

"Boogie, again, I cannot promise you minutes because I am anticipating that Xavier Johnson may be getting a seventh year, and again, we are depending on X, son."

Ahh... there it is ... reason for his being blindsided when X doesn't make it back next year. :D

Well I will say that Woody hasn't given Rabby the respect he deserves this season either. Whether we like him or not Rabby is a good journalist. He covered the Pacers for years before coming to the IU basketball scene.

Woody always gives him some smart a$$ answer to a question after a game.

I believe it.  When I was in a previous school district our conference had a fairly active message board.  After awhile pretty much every school developed a rule where admins were not supposed to be creating accounts on the board.  But I had several administrators say they would check out the board a few times a month to see the lastest gossip and what people in their districts were thinking.  I would think the same would carry over to something like this.  They will all say they do not care or look, but they are looking or have people that look for them

If I'm Dusty May and LeBron is actually lobbying to get me in at Ohio State, send his son to play for me, and make donations contingent on me being hired... I am walking to Columbus and don't care about the obvious strings that will be attached. LeBron could completely transform Dusty's world, boost his stature, and create tons of opportunities... inside and outside of basketball. Easy call IMO.

Considering it's apparently a tough pitch for many donors to replace an IUBB legend with a former manager... and Pearl is probably just using us for leverage... Year 4 with Woody looks very likely right now.

Hopefully the wind is blowing in the opposite direction soon...
