How you do anything is how you do everything…. If IU cuts this many corners with its apparel, why wouldn’t it cut just as many corners with every other aspect of the program?
 

We cut corners when hiring our coach, we cut corners going to the tournament in NYC this year (no cheerleaders, etc), the Brand of Indiana Basketball is to cut corners

Ok, this is a total rumor, gossip, whatever you want to call it.  

It has been spotted in Cook Hall that Mac has hired a private coach and has started excelling since.

Any truth, knowledge, or validity on this?

If so, that is extremely piss poor from the ENTIRE coaching staff.

I think that you are jumping to the conclusion that Adidas would be printing money if they sold that jacket to the general public. Adidas would have to sell thousands of those jackets to break even and tens of thousands of them to turn enough of a profit for it to even be worth their time, and if they don't sell all of that inventory they end up losing money on it.

Plus anyone who knows the apparel biz, it's very fickle.  Lots of "looser" products for every big winner.

Also I hope that if I, as a non-athlete, ever wore that jacket in public one of my friends would tell me that I look stupid.

You are correct. I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding of what the brand agreement between IU and Adidas actually is. It is essentially a marketing tool for Adidas, not a licensing deal. The only apparel that Adidas can exclusively sell is the team apparel. I can see where it would be in Adidas's best interests to create some new jerseys in order to boost jersey sales, but when it comes to shirts, hats, etc. they are not a big profit center for Adidas and can actually be a liability.

I'm sure he has his personal workout coach, like every other player on the team has. He has played better when he has learned to stay out of foul trouble. We are also running more things for him. I don't think he is only using his private coach

My related hot take on this is the candy striped pants. If you are anyone other than a current player on the team on gameday, you look dumb wearing the pants.
