Coach Curt Cignetti to INDIANA

Recommended Posts

My opinion for what's it worth is that he's not leaving IU.  He sees this as the last stop in his coaching career and it would take a major rift between he and the university for him to leave but he's not going to simply be poached.  Certainly don't expect a repeat of this year's results next season but I sincerely believe he can make IU football respectable with consistent post-season bowl appearances.  And when he does retire he will go down as our greatest football coach ever.

This brings an interesting thought. Could be its own thread, but it isn’t that crazy to wonder if the moment Rece Davis reveals our logo on the CFP show on December 8th, Cig goes down as the best coach in IUFB history.

I posted earlier that the buyout for him to leave seemed disappointing, but then I did some research and found it’s actually well above average.  Looked at contracts for guys like Ryan Day, Lance Leipold, Mike Elko, and Luke Fickell, and those guys all only have to pay like 5 or 6 million to leave.  So we probably got a good deal given the market.

Has to be. No way he’s leaving as well. When u can make the playoffs, you’re going to get all the resources u need to recruit if he’s paid well. Plus expect huge donations to help as well.

Since 1950 his competition is Bill Mallory, who won 47% of his games, or John Pont who got us to the Rose Bowl but only won 38% of his games.

Pretty clear to me that a 11-1 Cig leading a team, picked to come in 17th in the BT, to the CFP is already our best coach ever.

The only thing that's disappointing is knowing that IU is just now using the money on IUFB. Just think of how much more sooner Indiana could have been a powerhouse in football. Us IUFB faithful have been begging for this type of investment to occur for decades!!!

I mean give credit to Dolson. They increased the number of teams to 12. A window has opened and we took advantage of it. Even if we invested a ton stupid writers would have not given us a fair chance. We’re like Virginia tech of the 2000s but unlike them we can win it all one day.

I wondered about that. We see the crazy school buyouts for Tucker, Jimbo, etc. but you never really hear the figure for when a guy gets poached. Seems like we did well there.

I don't know, we fo have a coach that turned a garbage program into an undefeated season Conference Champion.  Bo McMillin.  Google him.
