Fred Glass signed the last Adidas deal through his buddy and fellow IU alum who is a VP at Adidas. At the time it provided us with the most up front cash and presumably more $ than Nike. At the time it was one of the largest, because at this point a lot of schools were dropping adidas like third period French and Adidas wanted to keep their remaining premier schools (Michigan dropped the contract and moved to Jordan and we should have done the same IMO) Although it was the most up front cash, fans speculate that it was a short term gain for a long term loss for two reasons 1 : poor apparel sales directly related to Adidas not selling anything the fan base would like to buy - see the daily student article blasting adidas for doing team issue only apparel that the fan base can’t buy. I believe IU gets a royalty for everything sold. And so even if IU got less money up front from Nike, they could get more money from the royalty portion. If you Don’t believe me, go to any Nike schools website and there’s pages on pages of apparel whereas the adidas schools are limited… also Iu isn’t even a tier 1 adidas school (at least in football). So an adidas school like Washington gets these new technology football jerseys etc, and IU gets their bottom tier technology from years ago, which makes it look like a jersey from Walmart. (Also IMO our basketball uniforms don’t fit, they come untucked a lot and kids are rolling their shorts up 1-2) 2. Brands play an important role in recruiting and it’s speculated that Adidas hasn’t helped us get top basketball talent. If you don’t believe me, go to any high school or youth basketball pick up game, it will be 90% Nike gear, and maybe 10% Steph curry/under armour, and maybe 1% Adidas - meaning people are voting with their wallets and Adidas is not what kids want to wear It has been pointed out by fans who went to the Kansas game that there are serious issues with adidas at IU and our apparel in general, which have given rise to the success of companies like homefield (not a bad thing) For Reference: Article on Adidas not selling gear fans are trying to buy: https://www.idsnews.com/article/2022/03/column-indiana-fans-want-to-feel-part-of-teams-adidas-stopping-them-apparel-womens-basketball Information around the Adidas Contract: https://indianahq.com/5-things-you-didnt-know-about-ius-contract-with-adidas/ It should be noted that IU is set to renew next year and Adidas has the right to match any offer, had we been gung ho I would assume we would have already announced an extension? So this would be positive news for Nike fans. I've heard a rumor that Woody isn't happy with Adidas, and given his ties to worldwide wes, and with Cig coming from a Nike school there appears to be some momentum. Back in the day I was saying that if we have to stay with Adidas, we should have been a Yeezy Branded school like Michigan is with Jordan, but then Kayne went Crazy lol thebigweave, Tom White, cybergates and 1 other 4 Quote

I am speaking about fan apparel, not basketball or football player's equipment. I know it's not about me, but the kids and what they like. I love shoes and have never liked the way Nike shoes look overall and fit compared to Adidas. That's obviously my personal opinion. I would respectfully disagree. I have old Nike gear that still is holding up better than my adidas gear. Still can’t get real stitched jerseys from adidas (yes I’m a jersey snob), but at schools like Michigan I can go to a game and get custom stitched jerseys at the game! Also next time you go into the store at assembly hall pay attention to what gear is what. I would tell you Homefield (run by IU grads I believe) destroys adidas with their offerings, including that badass retro bomber jacket. We are an after thought to adidas IMO, or if anything they dont invest in IU like other programs. CSP, thebigweave and Tom White 3 Quote

He learned what it takes from the best in the business. I'm guessing we won't hear that IU practices are like a joke from HS anymore. From the IndyStar article: “What I learned from (Alabama's) Nick (Saban) was really how to run a ‘gram,” Cignetti said to pff.com. “The organization and leadership standpoint, the way he treated his day in season, the way we practiced, the way recruiting was organized. The way he led staff and players and the way he led the message he crafted. It was sort of a doctoral program on how to be a head coach.” That article also talks about he isn't set in his ways and will adjust as needed to get the most from what he has. Some of his teams depended more on defense, others on offense, while others were more balanced. Sometimes the offense was pass heavy, other times run heavy. It's not always the same thing but he makes it what it needs to be in order to win rather than trying to force something that doesn't work. THIS^^^ I was the one who posted about the recruit saying the practices under CTA were "a sh*show" and "middle school". CTA was a good guy but for IU to be a consistent winner and raise the floor, you need someone who's the CEO and can instill a real foundation for success. Just the fact that Cigs is talking about this specifically is a very good sign. go iu bb, iuthruandthru, J34 and 2 others 5 Quote

go iu bb Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 What IU's recruits think of the hire. https://247sports.com/college/indiana/article/indiana-football-curt-cignetti-hired-recruits-talk-hoosiers-221872939/ I don't pay attention to football recruiting but looking at the offer lists of more than a few of them didn't have any other P5 schools it. A couple of others had maybe 1 other P5 school. That's not great. I did notice there were a few that had been recruited by JMU, so Cignetti will already be familiar with them. iuthruandthru, mamasa and thebigweave 3 Quote

If we end up staying with them, hopefully they can remove that provision. I had a contract I was bidding on for years and the competitor would always just wait and match mine so finally we found a way to bid such that the match removed that. Quote
