Huge no from me for many reasons. That’s a Fitz recruited team and Fitz record at NU speaks for itself. Fitz at a school with no academic restrictions could be dangerous. Schools like NU and Stanford aren’t going to survive long term in the football world in the portal era. Rico and Stuhoo 2 Quote

Huge no from me for many reasons. Not only does he have that hazing scandal, but even before that his record his last few years was IU bad. 3 out of 4 seasons with 1-8 conference records. And that was in the B1G west which was even weaker than usual during that time. Hard pass from me. cybergates and lillurk 2 Quote
LamarCheeks Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Dana Holgorsen is about to be available. How great would this look patrolling the sidelines at Memorial Stadium on Saturdays?? iuthruandthru, Rico and WayneFleekHoosier 1 2 Quote

Completely agree that it’s pretty much his team this year. Also like that the team largely stood behind him RMK style when things blew up. Much more bothered by the three stink bomb seasons he put up in his last four at NW. lillurk 1 Quote
Home Jersey Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Has Dolson issued a statement yet? I checked but can't find anything, not even a tweet from the Indiana Football account. Would be nice to see something as simple and generic as "we're committed to making Indiana University Football a nationally relevant program." I wonder how quickly we see a hire made. mamasa 1 Quote

He is by far and away their biggest donor and calls the shots. Thanks for making my point. A small minority of one controls. If the plebs had their way NW sports would be D3. Quote

Hopefully Dolson hasn’t commented because his power to hire the next coach has been taken from his hands. I absolutely deplore search committees because if you’re an AD and don’t have the foresight to hire your own guy you don’t deserve to be an AD. But in this instance an outside firm MUST be hired. Dolson doesn’t have a clue. And why should he? He’s a basketball shill who’s never been tasked with evaluating a football applicant pool and is responsible for handing out one of the most reckless college football contracts in the history of the game. He should be left out of any and all discussions assuming IU continues to employ him. Quote
Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 I'd take Pat Fitzgerald but I think his success would hinge on his OC. Honestly though, he'd probably come to Indiana and wonder how NW has better facilities. But I'd definitely take him. Quote
GoIU8 Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Fitzgerald would be an awful hire when you look at his resume with a microscope. He's had really awful years. His longtime DC retires, NW craters and doesn't ever recover from that. I'll be really disappointed if he's the hire. cybergates, lillurk and go iu bb 3 Quote
AKHoosier Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 I'd get more on board with Fitzgerald if I avoided looking at his last 3 or 4 seasons at Northwestern. NU would have tolerated the hazing fiasco if he was still winning 7-10 games per year. Quote

LamarCheeks Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Also posted this in the Tom Allen got fired thread. IU's news release: CTA will get $15.5M -- guessing since that appears to have been negotiated down, it's a final total, regardless of future employment. BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson announced on Sunday afternoon that head football coach Tom Allen will not return next season. A national search for Allen's successor will begin immediately. "After continued evaluation of our entire football program, I have determined that we have lost momentum and that a change in leadership is necessary at this time. I want to thank Tom for all of the contributions he has made to IU in his seven years leading our program. His passion, character, and class made a positive impact on our student-athletes. We wish him well in his future endeavors." The university and Allen have agreed on a financial settlement of two $7.75 million installments that will be paid through the department of athletics donor funds. MemphisHoosier 1 Quote
