Class of '66 Old Fart

IUBB vs Wright State - Thursday, 11.16.23 @ 7:00 on BTN

Recommended Posts

Our guards can’t shoot or defend the three. We need MM to play like a 5 star recruit but I suspect guard play is gonna lead to a disappointing season.
Likely no guard depth at all. The portal nah no guards.

Ware is playing excellent basketball.

Reneau is playing well.

Gunn looked good tonight and made the right passes. First game where he deserved more minutes. Happy about that.

Banks- not great but his potential is sky high. I hope he stays a Hoosier.

Sparks isn’t impressing me. Love the dude, but idk.

Walker is better than he’s showing. Making bad decisions.

Mgbako can score the rock. But man, that defense has been beyond awful. If I can pick anyone on our team to shoot FTs it’s MM.

X is ying and Yang.

Galloway did about everything right but his jumper seems like a prayer right now. Not confident.

All signs point to UConn by +15, sadly.

Although Mgbako didn't hit from deep tonight, we got him shots.  Keep feeding him because if there is a guy that could go off from three, it's him.  Probably just need him to get off of his head, but not feeding him when he's open would keep him in his head even worse.  MM had a bad first half defensively but I thought the second half was the best defense he's played this year.
Walker needs to not shoot another three this year.
Ware has been better than I thought he would be.
X had a rough game.  Did think he had made a couple of plays defensively but got called for fouls that weren't there.  Don't know the extent of the injury but hopes it's not too bad.  Glad to see him walk off but he definitely looked like he was in pain on the bench.
Curious to how he was bad outside of 2nd defensive possession? Once it looked to be his fault middle of 1st half but from what I was watching it was a missed rotation from Cupps. Could've been an over help from Mbagko as well but in real time it looked like Cupps' fault.

I agree on all of that. Mgbako really struggled to hit his shot tonight but I was happy to see him actually take some shots. I think here shortly he will find his sweet spot and hit more 3’s as the year progresses.

I think so too. His looks were great and I believe he took 6? All but one looked good, too. Those are swishes very soon. He’s got the tools to score 12-20+ a game, and I believe he will - hopefully against UConn. I would take him taking those 6 threes all season long. Shoot, I would take 8-10!

He went 1-7. He will find his rhythm and timing on his shot 100 percent. As far as his defense he needs a ton of work but it is fixable.

Same sentiment and his engagement on the bench is what leads me to believe he wants to learn and turn it around. I think the kid wants to be great. He’s going through his growing pains now, and that’s ok. I’m happy that’s happening now instead of later. He can still be very good and so can this team. Go Hoosiers.

@RaceToTheTop- I had read that kid was hurt first couple of games. Yeah, he hit 48% last year and like 66 shots from 3 or something. He wasn’t unknown. There is something about guys with chips on their shoulder coming home.

really, really hope he shortens rotation. Hoping this was last game to try some stuff. That really changed things it felt like. Then when that unit came back they were not as sharp. As I said earlier today and still feel, Walker and Sparks, limited, limited minutes.

rebounding - our guards fault, Woody said it too.

MM- still work to do but was happy. It is coming. Those giving up need to look at some JHS stat lines form last year. I could see a 30pt game from him easy. D was better but as Bardo said, he is still thinking a lot. Makes him look slow to react.

CJ - made me look like less of an @$$ advocating for him. He looked lot better and more comfortable. Nice to see him show leadership to Sparks as well.

Malik - still wish he would kick it like 25% more. Seems to make bad decisions to force it at times.

Ware - first rounder

X and Trey - not happy with either of their D. For all the hate on MM, no excuse from those 2. they set the tone or lack of for 3pt defending

Cupps - kind of invisible tonight and looked lost on offense and defense both at times. Still plays hard.

Banks - looked solid - he is part of what I hope is 8 man rotation. Please Woody

if X is healthy - they will surprise vs UConn. Maybe not win but solid game. These guys are playing down to comp some. You can see it. Shouldn’t happen but does to the best of them.

Can definitely tell they are playing down to their competition. I think Sunday they either show up with the intensity necessary or they learn real quick the level they are going to need to bring moving forward.

Thank God we got Ware.

Would we be winless at this point without him? Joking, but also kind of serious.

He is really good.

Ware has been extremely impressive only 3 games in.....Shew! I think he has better footwork and ball handling skills than Edey...

Not winless but probably be 1-2 if FGCU and Wright State had their best players playing.

I bet Oregon is thinking....."Man, why couldn't we get that out of him?" He looks totally in his element at the low post and has the mindset that, "I am going to score this bucket one way or another!"

Ehhh... Welage isn't going for 30 if Wright State's best player is playing. That made the loss of him minimal.

Those arseholes are probably thinking "Damn kid decides to try after he's no longer here, of course, just our luck"

They could never be the problem themselves! LoL. Woody has shown he can develop the hell out of big men if nothing else.

Edit: To clarify before anyone assumes I'm implying something, he's obviously good at other aspects of coaching. Woody is a good coach. Not perfect. Good..... no such thing as perfect in sports. That's what makes it fun (sometimes)

Thought some things improved tonight but need to play 40 minutes. I don’t care what the scores are as long as we aren’t losing the buy games. @Chris007 you hear anything about X postgame at all? SIAP

I don't think we'll know anything till sometime today. He sprained it but not sure how bad.
