Him being a one and done is very, very good for IU IMO. Liam McNeeley will take note. Liam is 6'6", skilled, not physically dominant, and playing the point very effectively for Montverde.  In other words, while every player is different, it's incredibly easy for him to see the direct comp between him and JHS. And I would hope that JHS is reporting back to Montverde that he made an excellent decision in choosing IUBB.

This is great stuff. We get a shot at a national championship because JHS is one of our key guys, the talented culture guys like Trey Galloway carry the program torch from year to year, and other top 25 players see that we are a path to being an NBA first round pick.

I am sorry but I don't see a great player leaving as being great for the program.  I rather have the talent in hand over what talent we might get.

I see what Stu is saying but tend to agree with you.

having JHS as a one and done “CAN” help the staff recruit other one and done type talents so “IF” it plays out that way over and over and we get a JHS level player every year it is a good thing.

However, that has yet to be seen and as is currently a big “IF” so until we backfill him with another like talent, it’s a negative for IU

I believe it's dependent on the individual and their situation. There are players that need the NBA for whatever reason (money, focus on development over school, coaches, etc.) while others might be able to delay it for a year or they enjoy their current situation.

How many rookies actually make an immediate impact? Defining immediate impact as being a rotation player or better.

We're not a program that will get a talent like JHS at PG every recruiting class. We need to continue to get multiyear PGs that will develop or more experienced PGs through the portal. When a talent like JHS comes along you obviously take him but don't believe relying on a frosh PG every season is a winning formula.

It would be interesting to see how this season had played out without XJ being injured. Does JHS continue to facilitate and take over when needed? Does he play and score more off ball with XJ running the show?

Define "large guaranteed contact."  Top 15  at $3 mil?  With only 2 years guaranteed.  I know, big money to you and me, but not really by NBA star standards.  Predicting the future -- It's a tough decision.

From what I understand, that's the best case scenario if both options are picked up and the team pays the max allowed. The values that I posted yesterday had a total of nearly 15 million for four years and around 7 million for the first two that are fully guaranteed for pick 15 and I'm sure the 23-24 draft picks will have another 5-10 percent added on.

That's over the 4 year contract term, with only the first 2 years guaranteed.  The last two years are team options.  

Here is next year's rookie scale.  15th would be looking at about $7 mil guaranteed.

$5.6 to $8.4 mil guaranteed over 2 years for the 15th pick is still... solid money. 

There are many other data points that can go into this decision too. Will he have the team around him next season to show off his talents? Will a year of college development provide enough to jump into a top 10 or better pick? Will his stock ever be higher? Will delaying getting to your second contract by a year be worth it?

I want JHS to stay at IU, but as a Freshman he is already really high on the boards. I think it’s risky for him to play another year for not only the injury possibilities, but the not good enough. stigma that gets placed on a kid after coming back. Now NIL is a new intangible,  I just don’t think it can outweigh the benefits of going this season.
