Not sure how I feel. Thought we’d have a puncher’s chance at the final four with him, but if wasn’t gonna be 100% again this year, this is about as good as good news gets.

Need a portal big for depth, I’d throw in a combo forward, stretch 4, or maybe both from somewhere, not currently on the roster. And yeah — that’s a team with a defense that shows up every night, and enough offense to be pretty interesting.

Woody said to get old and stay old when he was hired. I think we are 2 legitimate transfers away from competing for a top spot again. Hopefully a big saw the chemistry and lobs from X to TJD the last 2years and wants to fill in. Don’t feel bad at all going into next year. Who’s starting the fund for Trayce to stay another year? Have some extra change to pitch in…

This sorta surprises me. 

TJD will be gone. Race will be gone. Kopp will be gone. 

I would think those are X's boys. He's 23 now, will turn 24 in October. He'll be playing with a bunch of kids -- depending on transfer portal additions, of course. 

I just remember how out-of-sorts Will Sheehey seemed when he was the only one left after Cody, Vic, Jordy and C-Wat all left.

Ok.  Big time. This is what I thought was going on.  I was early on these predictions.  Happy to have him back.  Now let’s get Bidunga to reclass.  (We need a serious rim protector for D). So either Bidunga or a TP stud.  Get a shooter or 2. Also.

This would be brutal. Because he’s clearly able to play now, imo, just maybe not full strength.  
 

I think he’ll get it though. Too many examples of it going for the kid.

Oh, ****. My bad if that’s the case. I thought I remembered Coach Woodson saying that as well but I’ve been wrong before. Either way, that’s a sentiment I agree with

Here’s some reading on the waiver. Looks like this actually is part of the 30% rule (I was wrong on that) but X will meet it. Kansas was our 11th game of the season excluding exhibitions. We’ll definitely play 33 games (and I hope we play 37 because math is hard). 

I don’t have a clue on deadlines/timelines, but I’m guessing this paperwork would be submitted ASAP. They might wait until we play our 33rd game. My conservative guess would be he has a concrete answer before May. 
 

UPDATE From the UMass compliance website:

A medical hardship petition cannot be filed for a student-athlete until the entire traditional/championship playing season in the student-athlete's sport has been completed during the year in which the injury/illness occurred, and there is no deadline for filing.

Here’s a football case, very similar to X’s situation actually although he had played over 30% of the season, that was denied by the NCAA recently.

Gotta admit, I’m pretty excited about this considering all the realistic options.  Definitely hurts our ceiling a little bit for this season.  I wanted to celebrate him on this team with these guys.  If he’s not 100% it may not play out well anyway, so next year with JHS kind of unexpectedly leaving after a year, it gives us an experienced athletic guard.   He’s not the picture perfect PG and he has warts but we weren’t guaranteed or maybe even likely to do better in the portal. 
 

It gives us a kinda limited ceiling at PG next year too, but it gives us a solid floor.

Not to be the turd in the punch bowl, but for Xavier Johnson to have not played in more than 30% of our games, we will need to play 37 games. We are guaranteed to play 33 games.
