IUFAN1976 Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 I was going to put this in the IUMB News and Notes thread but it may be just appropriate here too. I seen that ITH posted their top 40 players and I know it is basically based off of the writer or staff’s opinion. They are also the same person or group that has picked Turdue as the favorite to win the B10. Purdue has 3 players on that list rated in the top 40 (1, 24, 25) and IU has 4 players rated in the top 40 (4, 8, 11, 19) and I do think we have the potential to have a much deeper and better bench than them. Does Matt Painter have that much more impact on this team being picked to win the B10 than MW? We have 4 players rated higher than their #2 and #3 rated players and to me the numbers add up more for us to be the favorite. Am I see this wrong Stuhoo 1 Quote

Am I see this wrong Braden Smith is the best player in the B1G without Edey? He's a good player but the best in the conference? Reality without Edey will be hard for Purdue and all the sports writers making picks as though Edey is still there. Hardwood83, thebigweave, HoosierHoopster and 3 others 6 Quote

Am I see this wrong I think that Purdue gets a bump for returning so many key players that have been in Painter's system, whereas we have two starting guards and a starting 5 that are new to the system. That having been said, I agree that the loss of Edey cannot be understated and that Purdue should not be the league favorite. IUFAN1976 and DChoosier 2 Quote

Turdue not the league favorite, IMO too! I would think they maybe lucky to finish in the top 5. Braedon Smith is overrated and definitely isn’t the best player in the conference but I don’t think Myles Rice is a top 5 player either but I really haven’t seen him play much so it could be possible. But what I do know, without Edey, Smith’s assists will go down and his turnovers will go up and Turdue won’t be that good either ebridges24 1 Quote

LamarCheeks Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 I used to follow tennis quite a bit -- back in the days of the McEnroes, Connorses, Lendls, Agassis, Edbergs, Samprases and even a bit into the Federers. But admittedly, I haven't paid attention in awhile. This is Taylor Fritz, the American who's playing for the U.S. Open title Sunday. Didn't even know who he was until I saw something about him recently on ESPN. He bears a bit of a resemblance to a certain fifth-year IU guard from Culver, does he not? Funny, watching the match yesterday I was thinking he even has the same demeanor lol. I was also a big Conner, Borg, Agassi tennis watcher, those guys were so much fun to watch, turned to women’s tennis with the drop off in the men’s game, the big change the Williams sisters brought, Hingis, Seles, and now the incredible depth in women’s tennis (hoping Coco grows up mentally soon and brings more of a killer instinct, she’s good enough to be dominant but doesn’t like stress and didn’t bring it this season). that Fritz-Tiafoe match was a battle, T just ran out of gas. The US men are on the cusp of getting back, going to be really tough to take down Sinner, but great to see Fritz- the US - back in the US Open final Quote

I find both of those things less probable than not of happening. I don’t the quality of writer or how plugged in those guys are over there anymore, but it did make me at least wonder if other people are expecting Galloway to start. I think Tucker and Cupps are 100% in the main rotation to start the season, we'll see what happens when B1G play comes around of course. This is the way I see it currently. I don't see Woodson playing more than 9. Rice / Cupps Trey / Kannaan Mackenzie / Tucker Malik / Goode Ballo OUT OF ROTATION: LEAL, NEWTON, HATTON, JAMES. Malik will move to 5 when Ballo is out, could see some more small ball action hopefully by going 4 guards / wings and 1 big guy. Malik and Ballo will 100% start together. Trey needs to start IMO. Actually shouldn’t be too hard. First question is whether that type of exam was standard of care for 18-22 year old athletes back then. I have no clue as I avoided doctors until my 50s. Not my favorite part of the exam. cthomas 1 Quote

I really hope it doesn't go there, but you have to investigate. Stuhoo and J34 2 Quote
