I would guess every coach team goes through these scenarios in practice ...

Down 2. 5 seconds left. Gotta go the length of the court. What do we do?
Down 3. 10 seconds left. Got the ball at half-court.  What do we do?
Down 2. 4 seconds left. Inbounding from under our basket.  What do we do?
Tie game. They've got the ball. 30 seconds left.  What do we do?

Do we practice these? I honestly wonder.

Other than Rob's 3 at home against PU -- and was with plenty of time left -- we've had absolutely no clue what to do in crunch time. None whatsoever.

And he had a second chance at that one.

Giving the ball to Xavier and let him take the ball up and take a shot makes plenty of sense especially since no other players other than Kopp were shooting well. He had more time to get close enough to put up a decent jump shot but chose to try to get a foul call which wasn't going to happen. Poor judgment on Xavier's part imo rather poor coaching decision.

That’s two game where X had the ball with 5 seconds without getting a decent shot. One he walked the ball up, for some unknown reason, and today he hunted a foul with over 2 seconds left. In both cases he had time to go coast to coast and make something happen (shot/foul/tip-in).

Overall a great game from him, however, and we would have gotten smoked without him (they went on a quick run when he went out with the hammy).

Hope he returns…

If nothing else I feel the days of getting punked out by Purdue in these games are over.  We split two tight games this year against what was possibly their most hyped team since the 90's, and although future roster concerns for IU are warranted I still like what we have in the pipeline more than what Purdue has.  And they stand to potentially lose A LOT after this season.

I don’t think he hunted a foul, but once there was contact tried to count on it getting called.  Should not have put the shot up without the whistle.

thought that even being a little short handed (no Galloway, X for a short stretch when he was on fire), a lot of loose balls not going our way, and the typical Big Ten home court nonsense, we were right there.

The last two games, even though we haven’t been hitting shots, we got our shooters looks.  Now we need them to hit them.

He is wretched in the clutch.  2 TO's, a forced fade away jumper, and that garbage at the end in the last 120 seconds.  Kids who don't have any idea how to win will not ever win close games.    As solid as he was, he's not a winner.    Not yet, anyway.   He's got plenty of "good," but his "bad" has cost IU at least 3 games, including this one.

Can truly use the 'Us vs. the World' mantra cuz even I want to see Juwan face Wisconsin again.

That game is kinda like exclusively betting against IU. You win either way.

Had a delayed flight, so I got home in time just to see us make our run in the second half. At no point did I even contemplate that we might win.

With that said, I give them credit for playing hard and a close game. I predicted worse.

I’m not sure what you’re supposed to do as a coach when you continually get your best shooter open looks and he bricks them in big moments. I have zero faith in any of our “shooters” at this point.  You also got your best player a run at the hoop on the last oob play and your upperclassman inbounding the ball makes a lazy throw. Maddening if your on the staff.

I like our personnel less and less each game. Probably a good thing for me the season is about over. :/

Who exactly on this roster are winners? X carried us for large portions of today’s game

Ok, but you have to include several bricks shot by others in the conversation.  I mean, they shoot like me out there.

Kinda what I have been saying -- we don't have the horses.  Sure Woodson has made some mistakes, but who doesn't.  But our talent needs an upgrade.

Say what you want, and I know this is a bottom line world, but this team with all of its warts has, maddeningly at times, taken us to the very last second. We have been right there in nearly every game. That's more than you could say in recent years and, if I look at it objectively, that feels like progress. Maybe the comparative talent isn't there yet, but these kids haven't quit. They deserve, regardless of the results, more credit than criticism from us. There is at least one more game. Hopefully, more. I will be there to support them until the end.

We had chances late in the game but look back before that.

We spent a good stretch of the first half playing lazy ball where the bounces just didn't go our way. Secure a few more of those rebounds with just a hint of e and e and we're not in that same position late in the game.

P Stew missed an open look late in the game that would have put us up. His absolute idiotic tech gave them 2 freebies. There's a lot that goes into it but we're possibly looking at a tie game when he shoots that. Do we run the same play in that situation?

Kopp's weak inbound pass has been highlighted but we had several other WTF passes earlier in the game.

X has been much improved lately. Imagine if he would have been brought along and those issues corrected earlier in the year in the cupcake schedule? He is the closest thing this team has to a leader but hasn't been groomed the way he should have been.

I can’t put my finger on it. We’re not completely devoid of talent but we’re like the islands of misfit toys. Outside of a TJD post vs some matchups, we have no one thing we can hang our hat on.

The players seem like decent enough guys, but the talent, or lack thereof, is frustrating. Let’s hope Woody, being new and all, just put hia trust in the wrong people last year and that can be fixed. The number of guys I care to see back next year is not large. We’ll need talented frosh and a successful transfer market (things I never thought I’d be saying about college basketball) for next year to be better.

Players like XJ don’t exactly improve linearly. It’s not like the staff forgot about him or something.  He improved quite a bit early in conf season then seemed to regress around his suspension only to find his form again.
