Hoosier DaDa Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 So I open Facebook today and this memory popped up and this was after our great 2013 team that lost to Syracuse. OliviaPope40, Trish, Joe_hoopsier and 2 others 1 4 Quote
Trish Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 This is a must win game for the team. We need a big win to improve our resume, I don't see us winning at Ohio State and we're more than likely not going to win out the remaining schedule. We lose this, I imagine we're done this year unless we magically win out. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

I think the closest thing to a leader this team has is Galloway. His constant energy and unwillingness to give up are some good characteristics of a leader, I just don't think he is quite there yet. Will he ever become a true leader of this team, who knows, we aren't privy to behind the scenes, but the leader doesn't have to be the best player on the team. There are "named" leaders (with rank) and there are "functional" leaders (with action). I'll take a functional leader 8 days a week. Gallo certainly fits that mold, and I think Leal could if he ever got enough playing time. Hopefully next year. ALASKA HOOSIER, Ryno6284, IU - Kaulie and 2 others 5 Quote
DWB Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Re: effort I finally watched the Rutgers/Wisky game yesterday. There were a lot of possessions where the entire Rutgers team was moving all at once, (in half court set up) and with purpose. Not a casual jog thru the lane, but a sprint. They moved the ball really well. On many of the sets we run, my 70 year old body could guard most of the cuts our guys make. It's embarrasing to say "we played hard" when we move without purpose or intensity, or more than one at a time. Gallo's pace should be the minimum pace that all of them play at. That's why there's a deep bench. But I'm not so sure we're playing team ball all the time. I see a little selfishness creeping in from time to time. reconmkd, ALASKA HOOSIER, Loaded Chicken Sandwich and 2 others 3 2 Quote

I injured my back in overseas, was having trouble walking, and had no business being in country after the incident. I was accused of faking, put on crap details and shifts for over 3 months before I was released from theater and medically retired. A few months after my my battalion returned from overseas, a buddy from the unit passed away. I attended the funeral walking with a cane and one of my former leaders made a derogatory comment under his breath about me and yes I heard it, as did my wife. At that moment was probably the lowest I had ever felt, to have a former leader trash you, in front of your spouse because you couldn't continue mission. Just because you wear the rank doesn't mean you deserve it and just because you get stellar remarks on NCOER (that is a non-commissioned officer evaluation report for those not familar), does not mean you are a leader. I don't know if Woody has been waiting for someone to step up, but with the comments he made last night, it kind of sounds like it. I don't think X would do the job or not. I like him, think he has had some fairly good moments this year, but the ability for opponents to get in his head will not help him lead at all! You have to lead by example and that's why I say Galloway. I think Trey does a pretty good job of trying to lead by example. I don't think there has been a game this season, where you can say that Trey didn't give it everything within his current limitations. You are probably right about elder team members being in the way of him fully stepping up. Another player that could step up and lead is Race. But he could be one of the one's that Woody was potentially waiting on to take the lead. Of course leadership is not the only thing that this team is in need of, but to have the coach of a P5 team public commenting on things such as leadership, buying in, suspending players in the middle of conference play, it really puts things into perspective on the current state of the team. I feel for you and there is unfortunately too much of that. Individuals test or move up when they shouldn't. I've never met a true leader that makes excuses. I've seen outstanding leaders put in absolutely horrible situations where they most likely shouldn't succeed and have the machine humming along way ahead of schedule. As THE leader, you create an environment that allows rank and file of your players. We've seen how that played out this season. Hopefully, there is a drastic change in that department in the off-season. ALASKA HOOSIER, reconmkd, Schreckbagger and 1 other 4 Quote

And at this point...every game is a must win. HoosierAloha and Hoosierfanyuh 1 1 Quote

However, while we've seen how this has played out this season so far, we do not know how the season will play out in total because the story is still far from written. We are 16-8, Woody has taken some strong public steps to instill a culture that he believes will be successful, and no doubt has taken some steps that are at least equally as strong behind the scenes. cthomas, Dave from Dayton, jonz44 and 3 others 5 1 Quote

I would assume you wouldn't count Phil Jackson as a true leader. That dude NEVER stopped making excuses....any time the Lakers or Bulls lost, it was the refs. Couldn't stand him. Quote
reconmkd Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Please just win tonight! I am already exhaust, work doesn't end for another hour and a half, son has archery practice and cub scouts after school and its a 9pm game. Oh I need caffeine and probably some bourbon to make it! Lord help me! HoosierAloha and HoosierHoopster 2 Quote

IUc2016 Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 Would love to see a revenge type attitude like we saw against Penn State. Probably not a good idea for this program to be in a must win game against Wisconsin, but it is where we are at. Let's send Bradley and Gregory back to cheeseland with an L. Go Hoosiers! Quote

If we have any leaders on this team, you can narrow the possible list down to 7! Which one or two of those 7 are the leader on this years team? I would say 0. Of those 7, which ones will eventually become a leader next year? I would say the best chance is 1. Galloway is the only one of the 7 that didn’t get suspended that sort of demonstrates leadership skills and could emerge as a true leader. Quote

I firmly believe that if we get to 10-10 in conference we'll be fine. Losing games like this puts major pressure on us to win against Rutgers, Minny on the road, and Maryland without any missteps. If we win this one? Then all we need is two of those three, or an OSU upset and one of those three. That would be extremely achievable. Quote
