I know he's the textbook definition of "benchwarmer" and he's not any good (this year, he finally made a basket!), but I thought he would get a few minutes in the rotation to avoid tiring out the remaining players Woodson had on hand. Chilly is a walk-on that averaged about 10 ppg in high school (14+ ppg his senior year). thebigweave 1 Quote

I think Childress is Woodson's "stick", and Duncomb got punished. HoosierAloha and NOLA Hoosier 1 1 Quote

You can have one head case, but not several. Pretty soon the players will just think you’re punishing them to punish them because so much punishment is being doled out, even if the punishment is justified. I think XJ being part of the five hurts as he has put together a pretty good stretch of play and decision making. Hopefully he rebounds from it. Quote
OliviaPope40 Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 I can without a doubt say this won't be a Duke thing where an indefinite suspension turns into one game what happened seems to be a little than a trip on the court. To all involved I hope you take something away from this learning experience. Stuhoo 1 Quote

Northwestern. Hopefully the boys have learned their lesson. They absolutely dominated Nebrasketball at their place last week. After beating us last night, they've moved to 5-8 in conference! They've been playing some great basketball, even knocked off Rutger by 1 at home before those two wins. The Big 1.o just doesn't have any walk over teams like the SEC, ACC, Big 12, or PAC 12. We even had Nebrasketball push us in their building. Hell, the new look PSU Fighting Shrewsberries beat us in their rowdy arena with all that 3* talent they now have. They have a good class coming in with a 4* so things are only looking up for them. This isn't the same conference as it was in previous decades. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

IMO, the 5 suspended players let the coaching staff, teammates and university down. The 3 upperclassman should know better and weren’t displaying good leadership, I think they should be given their walking papers and put their names back in the transfer portal. I know many on here won’t agree with that, but they didn’t set an example and probably should be made an example of. It probably won’t happen but they totally let everyone down, including the fans! We do not need any more mental challenges this season. Do I hope that is angered some to make them hold others accountable and embarrass the 5 into not being stupid for the rest of the season, absolutely! Like I said it was just a thought that keeps coming up. It would have been incredibly interesting to be a fly on the wall in the locker room after the game last night. This whole thing could go so many different ways. If the 5 players just simply take their suspension in stride and try to move on, it's hard to imagine there won't be a divide amongst the team. If that happens, we may see some guys not make it to the end of the season. Hell this is both Durr and Stewart's second suspension, right? Now, did TJD or Race or whoever actually played last night, speak up and get into these guys about how much they let them down so it wasn't just the coaches? I wouldn't have any issues if they did, but my hope is that didn't have or need to happen. My hope is this.....at some point yesterday, maybe even right in that locker room after the game, each one of those 5 stood up in front of the guys who played last night and the staff and owned their mistake, profusely apologized, acknowledged this loss is on them, and said whatever they felt they needed to say to get their teammates to trust them and openly welcome them back....then of course they better have started right then and there proving it. Even after sleeping on it, there's nothing anybody can say that will convince me we won't lose the next 3 games and limp to the finish line. But if my "hope" of a scenario happened, that may be the catalyst for change, and even give us a fighter's chance to actually win the next 3. Stuhoo, reconmkd and OliviaPope40 3 Quote

Those upperclassmen would then become traveling men. It's not a bad plan to ship them out and then have a free throw on the rest of the season. Regardless, I like where we're at moving forward. This incident was at a perfect time before our schedule started getting tough. Remember that fun stat about IU being like 3-1 with Gallo and 3-3 without him or something? That was such a great stat. I know I'm in the minority here but my hope is the team just shuts up. They've done enough talking this season and in previous seasons to realize it's just that. Actions, which there have been plenty of opportunities for since they arrived on campus, speak much louder than words. I recognize it's incredibly difficult to be a leader amongst peers at that age but it's amazing what can be accomplished when someone or a group actually does that. That's a culture thing and we've had players that have been around the program and losing enough that it should have happened by now. Actions that show a mindset in line with the staff and university's standards will be what resonates. And they shouldn't expect that to be a short-term solution - to prove it's a real change those actions will have to be over an extended time period. lillurk 1 Quote

I know he's had an impossibly tough year, but that is not license to harm the team's culture. Before the complete story broke and it was still rumors, I saw 2 different comments that all of the presumed suspendees were participating in the shootaround except Stewart who reportedly was just standing at the mid-court line. I'm sure you've had similar experiences when one day you went from being all buddy buddy with your peers to having to take responsibility for their mistakes because you became their "boss" overnight. It sucks, there is an adjustment period, but when you ******* lead it's amazing how much easier it gets and the rewards that follow. The issue with this team is most would rather stay buddy buddy and talk about it than to put in the work to become that leader. Look at their "development" while in the program to see how willing they are to "develop" as leaders, but we've heard them talking about all that development.
