Class of '66 Old Fart

(2024) - SF Bryson Tucker to Washington via Portal

Recommended Posts

Not too surprising. He was a guy who waited last second for the highest NIL dollar and Indiana got suckered into it. Turns out, he wasn't very good, most freshmen aren't so not exactly his fault.

Onto another P4.

Tuck, invoking his best Lee Corso, says: "Not so fast, my friend."

(And technically, neither he nor anybody else can be in the portal -- because the portal is not open. They can announce intentions to go portaling, however.)

It's funny. 20 minutes ago Rabby posted that Tucker said that he's not in the portal. Then 10 minutes ago he posted that people at IU said he is. Maybe he's getting Creaned, but that seems odd without a HC in place.

Either way, it looks like Rabby has no f'in clue what's going on at IU. Not ideal when your job is covering IU.

This kid can play. Like Rice, Carlyle and a lot of the portal players that turned us down, if you are a downhill player that excels in space or God forbid play off the ball out of weekside movement and a ball reversal, IU can make you look pretty bad. There were plenty of schools, like a St. John's or Michigan St where he would've fit right in.

We'd be really scary if this team could've retained Tucker, Mgbako and Reneau IMO. Just as happy with a fresh start. But we're gonna see a lot of these kinds of performances from ex IU players this season. Good for them.

Maybe.  This would be my positive spin:

MM can shoot, but he can't defend/put in consistent effort, plus he's a toxic dude.  Glad he's gone, he's a culture killer.

MR I don't really have an issue with.  Though he's not much of a fit for CDD's offense and he may have irreversible Woody-itis after three years here.  Fine to see him go.

Tucker I honestly don't know.  I think Woody's bad program was the worst possible fit for him and he'll probably do well.  I know he and his parents were upset last year, but I can't blame them.

I saw Kanaan had a pretty good stat line vs. Boston College (6/11 FG, 4/7 3PT, 19 PTS, 1 Asst, 2 Steals, 1 TO).  Quite the change here!

I'm sure Rice will be pretty good.

It's wild how bad our former coach was...

I very much disagree with the "toxic" narrative about MM.

Agree on everything else. I think they'd all do better with a real coach. So we will just get more evidence throughout the year exactly how awful Mike Woodson was. Thank goodness he is gone!

I'm with Pagoda.

Malik, Myles Rice, and Tucker are super-nice kids. They'll be an asset to any program and were unimaginably misused at IU.

Mgbako? To me he's not a 'nasty' kid, but he is kinda weird and immature with very questionable judgment, and it would take a really good leader and even better locker room to get him to be a positive asset to a team. Toxic? Maybe. A negative? Yup.

The good news is... we can watch from afar and see how he does at Texas A&M this year. I am willing to bet he performs quite well for Bucky.
