Made sense before transfer portal, but now with the spring recruits they are competing with the entire transfer portal.  The power is diminished.
If you trust the staff you are going to they don’t recruit over you in the TP so lock up that spot while your in demand.

‘24 recruitng has turned out the be exactly like ‘23 recruting. Spring recruiting, here we come.

That isn't the worst outcome since Woodson & co have shown they have the ability to bring in some very talented players in the spring....but the volume for next year is a little more concerning. This year was 2 transfers and a late signer. Next year will likely need twice that, since bringing in 6, 7 or even 8 new players (including McNeely) might be required.

Rob Cassidy said it’s “probably” not great news for Maryland. If Ware and Reneau can show further development, I think it has to be IU. To me, all signs indicate this is Queen’s thought process.

It's horrible news for Maryland.  For IU, it's a little better but IMO still not great.  IU likely swayed him enough to reconsider Maryland.  But there will be other suitors in the spring who might have roster spots/minutes available now that they don't project now.

I agree actually.  It’s just not what the staff stated publicly they were trying to do and the composition of the roster. They wanted 3-4 recruits and likely 2-3 TP.  But yeah, if our NiL is what we think it is we should be a desirable destination spot. But the volume might be crazy.

This is where I am.  He's not sold on IU, at least not yet, or he'd commit. It gives us time to impress and close the deal but that time could allow other programs to jump in. Maybe IU does gel or craps the bed, maybe against tougher competition Ware does look NBA bound and Reneau doesn't look as improved. This gives IU time but a lot can go wrong too.

No idea if it’s good for IU or not, but there’s no way it’s good for Maryland.

What certainly won't hurt is being reminded of IU every day just by seeing McNeeley every day.

Nothing has been announced to my knowledge.  Still speculation at this point.

True but those other schools don’t have your best buddy going there. Don’t forget that. That wins any tie.  To each their own but I don’t see the IU worry here. Think this is great for IU.

If it was just about his best buddy, he could have committed to IU already.  Him not committing is good in that it means IU has been able to make him reconsider Maryland.  But it also means that he isn’t sold on IU at this point either.

Exactly and that will allow Houston and Kansas make up ground.  IMO, he wanted to go to Maryland but they botched his recruitment and he didn’t want to go to IU. Now that it appears Maryland has lost ground, he wants to take a closer look at Kansas and/or Houston.  I think IU is almost out of the picture.

Yeah, I think I've seen this movie before... didn't like the ending...

Talk about a glass half-full post with zero speculation! You've been Hoosier-punished over the years, just like the rest of us. I can tell by your tone!

I’d say pretty close to right.

Lot of chicken little behavior on this. “Well, this is bad for IU” . In what way?  Others get involved, ok?

Not sure how pointing out others can get involved is ‘chicken little’ behavior…..certainly not understanding why this was put in a reply to my post.  I’ve never expressed ‘sky is falling’ behavior on any recruit or transfer….because in todays landscape there are options.

I get a bit amused about the "kid wants to get all the facts and make the right decision".  Sure, they need to do their due diligence and be confident in their ultimate choice, but you can analyze & debate a decision until the cows come home and still be wrong.

If I'm CMW or UM's coach, I definitely start beating the bushes for other players.  Not saying give up on DQ, but don't sit passively by for one recruit that can't decide.
