Mike Woodson and His Coaching Staff

I understand everything is cyclical, but you have your head in the sand if you don't realize the only B1G programs we're clearly ahead of at this point are Nebraska, Minnesota, Maryland, Penn State, and Northwestern.

The rest have passed us by.

We'll probably lose TJD and Race after this year, so how does it get better before it gets worse?

Woodson is looking at a 4 year rebuild, which means he'll be well over 65 when we get back to respectability. Does he have the energy for that?

Yeah I have my doubts to say the least. Admittedly I was off the bandwagon as soon as his hire was announced, but was encouraged with the Fife hire and Hunter/Rosemond on the bench.

But now? A whole season is pretty much under his belt and the rest of the B1G knows how to negative recruit IU. They've seen his offense, and refusal to give major minutes to younger players.

We're missing a hell of a lot of ingredients in the recipe for success.

Not to spoil your Debbie Downness but Race said a few minutes ago it's very possible he comes back next year.

"Hoosiers for Good" is a new NIL project that will be spearheaded by Cook and work with the Hoosier Hysterics guys. It will help pay IU athletes to help do charitable things around town. Sorry, probably not life-changing NIL since they want to work with all athletes.

Also one for the haters: the offense creates a bunch of open shots (even without many shot creators!). Just have to hit ‘em

Our inability to shoot plays a big part in a statistic like this. Teams sag off our players when they’re behind the arc, both because we can’t hit 3s and because our two best players are post guys. It seems like almost every 3 Xavier takes is uncontested. Same thing happened with Rob against Minnesota.

That is a good sign for guys like me that wonder how the players feel about the staff this far in.  Like is Woody living up to the commitments he made to help them improve. Does he still connect well with them even as the year has gone in.

He said he hasn't decided. But would you prefer Race to come back for 1 year or have Geronimo for 3 more years?

Obviously, would love to have both, but I do wonder if playing time is a concern for Geronimo.

Both. Unless TJD is coming back as well, I don't see how Race returning changes anything for Geronimo. Race would almost certainly start at the 5 and Geronimo would probably start at the 4.

Race as the 5, JG as the 4 with Banks backing him up

Yea I don't believe it is exactly the offense that creates open 3s. Why defend it when 75% of the time they are trying to make terrible post entry passes?

Would love to see the breakdown of this. Uncontested shots for almost everyone besides a few (P Stew, Kopp, and maybe X) aren't the same for others. Also, uncontested shots where they shoot a high % opposed to uncontested shots plays a big role in this. We could run great action with Race getting a wide open look from the corner, that doesn't mean it's a good shot. That same play could result in P Stew in the same position but it's heavily contested. Running something for Kopp to catch and shoot while WIDE OPEN is not the same as running something for Kopp where he has to take a few dribbles to get an uncontested look. That latter is a low % shot even if uncontested.

Sounds good to me. I didn't think Race would be able to play the 5 full time, but the potential for 5 capable shooters on the floor is intriguing. Also, hope to see Duncomb on the floor more.

Maybe not on defense against the biggest goons in the BIG but we will presumably have Durr for relief in those cases. Offensively though, Race is a great fit for what Coach Woodson purportedly wants from the 5 spot. The post focused offense likely leaves with TJD.

Would love to have Race return! Race adding 15% to his outside shooting would change the dynamics of this offense.

The post mid-season Race!

Not sure exactly how the numbers check out, but his crappy 26% 3 point shooting has been largely comprised of a 15% first half of the season followed by about 35% for the second half.

From what I have been told, heard they love playing for him, especially the younger guys like JG, Leal, and Galloway. Lander not so much maybe. There haven't really been chemistry issues, everyone seems to like each other.

Any idea about Tamar and how he feels. He seems to have had an “active” year but probably thought he would be more productive on the court

I did some quick math b/c I've been curious anyway. If you simply look at the last 1/3rd of the season, Race is percentage-wise our best 3pt shooter in that stretch at 42.8% (9-21). X is at 41%, Kopp is 36%, Stewart is 30% in that same stretch.
