81 teams average 75 or more points per game.  200 teams average 70 or more points per game.

Tourney is small sample size. And I like Underwood and was disappointed in their performance. But Underwood literally made no adjustments in that game and Loyola had their number. That was nice scouting by Moser. The problem for a guy like Moser is that once you get a profile people will start adjusting and taking things away that you do well. Today he had no answer for that. He’d see that every night, from better coaches than Tinkle, as a B1G member. 
 

As to the other, I’d be curious as to who you like. Personally, I think a good IU program doesn’t need a Calipari-level recruiter at the helm.  Most coaches have recruited well at IU. I’d roll the dice with a good “classic” coach who knows xs and os, can prepare a team, and is good in game. Unfortunately, the college game is sparse with that type of coaching talent.

You all should be paying more attention to what @Demo has posted about Moser and any other of our candidates.  He has very high street cred and knows  what he's talking about.  Don't think for a minute he doesn't.

I don't believe this. He said what he had to say before the game, but if bigger programs throw 3+ millions, very hard to say no time after time unless he's there at Loyola not only for coaching basketball but also for religious reason. I don't think so.

I’ve always paid attention to Demo. I don’t necessarily agree with him on Moser but he is pretty good.

I’m in a different place. I agree with you on the recruiting piece, an IU coach will be able to recruit. But for me, if you can’t bring aboard someone who can change things by shear force of their accomplishments, and I’ve never believed for a second that someone like Stevens or Beard was ever in play here, I want a young guy whose talent as a game coach and player development plan are things I buy into. My guy, and there’s not a close second, is Wes Miller from UNCG. Love him. He’s not a hot young coach, he’s a great young coach. One of the elite bench coaches in cbb already. I think he’s a hall of farmer in waiting. And I’m pretty sure if Dolson agreed with me and hired the guy Bloomington would look like a smoking nuclear crater.

Wes Miller or Dennis Gates would be a complete grand slam World Series winner home run.

People would be pissed but winning would take care of that.

I have very little hope either of those two have been considered.

Interesting. Not real familiar. Will keep an eye on him.   
 

I’m in the same philosophical spot, though. If you take the top couple names off the board, everyone else has giant question marks anyways. I’d rather roll the dice on young talent. It takes an AD that can spot that talent, though.

You can appreciate Mosers offensive sets and still not want him at IU. Same reasons you wouldn’t try Tonagel or A really great HS coach.

Absolutely true. I’m not saying he’s the guy at all. I prefer other guys.  But comparing him to Tonagel or a HS coach is silly. How about this comparison: If we were having this conversation in 2019, Buffalo was 28-3 and Nate Oats was the hottest mid-major coach going. People around here and outside would have been touting him. He would have had a thread. And he went into the tournament and got boat raced by Chris Beard. Lost by by 20 and scored 58 points. Tell me with a straight face that his thread wouldn’t have looked exactly like this one. Over-rated mid major guy. System doesn’t translate. Overmatched. Insert your favorite insult here. Bama, undeterred, hooks him up and suddenly, when coaching Kira Lewis, John Petty and Herb Jones, he goes from being Nate Oats to being NATE OATS.

I think I agree 100% with what you just said. I don't want Porter and I won't be happy if it's him. But I think we have to let things play out. Archie Miller was this great hire according to the media and look how that turned out. My biggest concern is can Porter get guys who have the talent to compete in the Big Ten? We won't know for awhile. I just don't think he can. But it doesn't matter what I think. It matters what actually happens.

All you hoping it's not Moser should be rooting for Underwood to wind up at Texas.  If he does the Moser would 100% be the next Illinois coach.  I've also heard rumblings for weeks that Krutwig has been planning on grad transfering for his extra year to Illinois.

Agree. IMO Musselman, Beard or Oats can come in and recruit against the Big Ten from the day they arrive. Not saying they'd dominate, but they are on even footing. 

I know Moser is a Midwest guy and probably has connections, but this summer/fall if he's the IU coach and recruiting head-to-head against Izzo, Painter, Holtman, Howard, etc., where does he rank in those battles? Probably at the bottom.
