There's no guarantee that ANY coach will succeed here or anywhere else... but no need going off the deep end on an NAIA guy... plenty of other quality fish in the sea...

I have concerns about Beilein but I will take him a million times out of a million over Alford.

This right here. We've done this (search/hire/replace a coach) way too many time already in recent history... no need to complicate the process by going into a new coach scenario with a known shelf life...

Truth is all of our concerns or wishes are irrelevant.  I hire people all the time and it comes down to the resume gets you the interview, then the interview is all that matters.  Does the prospect have the same vision as SD? Does the prospect carry himself as expected by SD?   
 

All of the names being mentioned can probably meet the resume test.  It is SD’s decision and his alone.

Somehow I want Michael Lewis back at IU. Especially after listening to him on DD’s show this week. He’s tired of IU being bad just like everyone else and he didn’t care to say it even though he’s coaching at UCLA.

100% on all this.

Like I said, all candidates have potential downsides. Beilein's unique downside is his age, so it's definitely something to consider. What I'm confused by is the number of people I see saying that hiring Beilein would end their IU fandom, etc. That's just bizarre to me. I don't relish the idea of another coaching search in 5 years but I'm genuinely curious why this would be such a deal breaker for so many people. Alford is like that for me, I wouldn't support this program with him as coach, but there's a perfectly good moral reason for that. Beilein's downsides are real but I can't imagine them being prohibitive to being an IU fan.

I'm not old enough to remember, but what do you think IU fans thought when they hired RMK?  Who the hell is this guy?  Don't care where you are coaching now, you either have it or you don't!  Just because he is in the NAIA doesn't mean squat to me, if you can win!
