I love the IDEA of an IU guy, but if we're looking for proven P5 guys, there's just nobody out there.  Dane is an Assistant, so is he proven?  (Not that I would mind that hire one bit) ... Alford is the only guy that comes to mind and his definition of "proven" is very questionable...

Someone mentioned Musselman, I like that hire a lot.

All of this talk, and I guess the real question should be, do we have any reason to believe Archie is actually going anywhere?

the only reason we have to think he is gone is that this is the arguably the worst 4 years in IU history. The reason to think he is not gone is the money. So who knows.

Not sure if it's been discussed, but how would you all feel about CAM getting fired, and one of the assistants being named interim (either for next season, or just until we get our guy)?  Not advocating for or against, just trying to add a variable to the discussion.
That was my thought when I see people saying we can't get our guy or whatever. I say give us a interim if you must just anything but what we have currently

My biggest worry is that I will get my hopes up for a Brad Stevens / Billy Donovan and end up with a head scratcher like last time we went down this road. Billy was here, Billy is coming etc,etc

I want him gone too, but an interim coach for a year because we can't find a coach we want would be recruiting suicide and a horrible look for the program.

You’ve gotta admit “Billy visits Bloomington” was a hilarious saga last time around. The journey is 99% of the fun. Ultimately we have no say in where this ends up so might as well enjoy the ride.

Not true.

I would be completely stoked by the right young coach. Would FAR prefer over someone in his late 50's or 60's who will always be known for his successes at another school.

We did that four years ago and it didn’t work. Scott doing that again seems risky on his career and the future of IU basketball.

There are no right young coaches out there. We thought we had one with Archie. It looked good and checked all the boxes. Unless it’s an IU young guy, I don’t see it.

Just because archie failed miserably doesn't mean the next person will. His brother cheated to the absolute max we have found out at he couldn't win big. Maybe just maybe we need to realize archie is bad perhaps maybe really bad but at minimum worse than crean bad and move on.

New to the board here .... but I know IU Athletics is tens of millions (40-60 million from what I've heard) in the hole this season with no butts in the seats.  They'll get some money from hosting the tourney but not sure it's going to be enough to make up for the massive loss.
That being said, they did just upgrade Coach Allen, so, what do I know about finances? :)

For sure but every little bit helps. Everything in the consession stands $100,000 should do the trick

Trusting in another mid major guy would be a bad look on the program. The fans are lost at this point. Fans want a big name. They see the headlines with mid major and IU hire than the fans are going to continue to drop off.

Screw us the fans especially the one's who proclaim mid major equals failure. Truth is if we are winning all those fans will be back plus bandwagon fans also. Just hire the right guy regardless where you find him and everything will be alright.

I’ve tried to make this point a lot, but there were signs before the hire that Archie’s reputation outpaced his actual prospects. I know he was the hottest young coach but the folks who make those lists like stories, and Arch was a good story: his time as a player, family of coaches, beat his mentor on a run to an Elite 8, so on.

This is one of the reasons I would value advanced metrics and discount tournament success a bit. His best offensive efficiency at Dayton was in his first two years; as offense got better across the country his diminished relatively. His best defense there was good, but his reputation far outpaced the performance of every season but 2015-16 on D.

Even the team that went to the E8 ended the year at 42 on Kenpom. It’s hard to get that far into the tournament without climbing quite a bit because you’re beating tournament-quality teams.

Right guy is results in 2 years or a big name out of the gate. It’s a tall task to ask IU fans to be patient with another mid major hire.

Were not going to be patient with anyone at this point. Whoever the person is they better be ready to win or have a well layed out plan to succeed that the fans can see. Archie had the talk and a plan and most of us bought in it just never panned out
