I thought we were coming off that hire. Oof.

If one believes the rumors that Dolson “had no choice” and was forced to hire Woodson then one could argue that it wasn’t that hire. But Dolson’s out of excuses at this point. Another dud of a hire will speak volumes on the seriousness of the program.

I suggest listening to Podcast on the Brink with @Mike Wiemuth (iuinphilly). Mike gave a very interesting detail on what NC coaches have in common. Look for a coach who has set an all-time wins record at a school. I don't remember how far back his research went but it was eye opening to say the least. Only one did not and that was Coach K because he couldn’t top Knight at Army. Mike also (my inference only) seemed to allude to Drew as being the best candidate we could hope to get and I agree.

Haven't we seen this movie before (MDW)?

Yep. I feel the same way.

While I think Brownell would be an upgrade over Woody -- nobody would be mentioning him in connection with IU if he weren't from Indiana. If he were from anywhere else, nobody would care.

If we end up with Brownell, I give up. That’s definitely not a plan B coach imo.
That would be the program simply giving up honestly. St Johns will go out and hire pitino and we end up with bronwell. I mean it would be just another cruel joke. People would try to talk themselves into liking the hire just like with woodson but they would know it was a huge settle.

Of course he would, he's on TV right now.

That's my point. This job isn't (as) appealing to well-established coaches currently in a good and supporting environment. There's zero reason for somebody like Nate Oats or Bruce Pearl or even Dusty May to leave their current jobs for IU even though IU has more history.

I'm telling you not to act surprised when IU hires either an up and comer from the lower ranks or a "mediocre P5 coach".

Does somebody have a case of the Mondays, AH1971?

Not sure he is even an upgrade. If you don't count this year his conference record is 128-126. That really no better than woodson

Does that mean I should go buy some depends?

That is for different kinds of leaks. Dammit for dams.

I know all of that already.

That optics of running off a coach who has made the tournament 3/4 years isn't appealing to a well-established coach currently in a good situation. This is a huge reason why Dusty May wasn't interested in the IU job.

No, it wasn’t
