that was 15+ years ago and if we're worried about that.... TJ O has some recent season we should REALLY worry about.

Sure, it was a while ago, but it was his last job and it was all 4 years.

Tbf, we just beat Washington who is basically Seton Hall and they just lost at Xavier by 20.

Creighton is 39 in NET and 5-6 in Q1 wins.

He’s a better coach than Woodson but the seasons this year aren’t as far apart as we’d want to really get the fanbase behind a hire like that.

But to me it’s about Mcdermotts X’s and O’s plus in game adjustments. It’s ALOT easier to recruit at IU especially with NIL compared to Creighton. So my question is how good is McDermott at those things?

Thats true. But, what happened at Iowa State? McDermott was 59-68 there. If anything, I would worry about that...

He took over a bad program and struggled to bring enough talent to improve more quickly. His last year he did make a step in the right direction. But Iowa State was a tough place to bring in talent until Hoiberg started bringing in transfers.

McDermott has also changed his offense quite a bit, I think.

So our new coach probably doesn’t want anyone back on our current team correct? Then again Mgbako’s Reneau and Rice’s portal reel from last night probably lost them each 50k-100k

There's a belief among some in the donor community that this season would have turned out differently if Malik hadn't been injured. They've made a big investment in a core group of players (Rice, Carlyle, Malik & Mgbako).

They'd like to see that group return to maintain continuity and not have a total rebuild.

Any donor that wishes to have Carlyle back and his 28% shooting is nuts

How many superstar Creighton players can the average IU fan name?   It is interesting to at least consider the possibility McDermott could upgrade his tournament success with the players he could get at IU.  If he simply manages to regain the advantage IU once had with top rated in-state recruits I would think the overall talent level would exceed what he generally has at Creighton.

Carlyle seems to be coming into his own, with a new coach Rice could be good, I was originally on the I hope MR leaves but I’ve changed my tune and think in a one big system he is really good, MM I want to know if his issues are with the coaching staff or if he is just lazy and uncoachsble. I’d possibly be interested in Tucker coming back but same questions as MM

15+ years ago, yes. I think McDermott's style matches what we want in a basketball coach.

Sure, and maybe he would kill it at IU. Who knows?

I think a major draw of Cig was the fact that he won everywhere he had been. That made him as much of a "sure thing" as Dolson could have hired. He was actually probably a better choice than many more established higher-profile coaches, just for that reason.

McDermott is a very good coach. But, if I'm picking the next coach, I want to know why those 4 years at Iowa State went so poorly. You can't just ignore a bad part of someone's resume. Was it the competition or style of play? Did his coaching style change? Did the resources at his place of employment improve? What happened?

Those questions would need to be asked...

He really is such a massively inefficient player. He would need to be willing to be nothing but a role player off the bench.

And to take a sizeable pay cut.

This is a great question and I think increased talent could be huge. Not saying a guarantee, but could be huge. Think about this past year’s IU football team. Really good and got the most out of what they could, but could tell a difference once playing top tier teams.

If it is McDermott and with an increase in talent, you never know what could happen.

He went 4-12 each year in the Big 12 his last 3 years there. It wasn't getting better.
