If we look at all the data points in Scott Drew's career, this stands out: he's only had three top-25 defenses his entire career at Baylor. Half of his teams since 2008, once they had been rebuilt, finished outside the top-75. Even his title team was one of the three least efficient defenses to win a title in the last 18 years; the other two teams were the generational UNC offense from 2008 and the Kemba Walker UConn run from 2011.

Think Drew coming to IU is basically a Tom Crean redux without the baggage of the first three years, and the oddities. Think people would generally be happy about the offense, and think teams would generally end up with protected seeds in the tournament.

Those are fair criticisms of his style. I’d only push back on the following: Drew has proven he can build championship D’s, moreso than Otz has proven he can build championship Os. And that’s also where the Crean comparison breaks down too.

Also, Baylor is so much worse of a job than Houston (or Iowa St or Marquette) it isn’t even a 1:1 comparison with those guys’ resumes, which Drew wins anyways.  I don’t “love” the Drew hire but his resume would have to be about the best of any coach hired to IU.

Honestly, if Dolson gets a Drew/Otz/Few choice, he’s paid handsomely to make the right choice. I disagree that they’d all work out here though, but then again my salary doesn’t hinge on that assumption.

Yeah, I've seen him lurking and has liked a few things and thrown in a couple small comments, but no info.

Idk I just feel that is very telling for me. IF they are truly telling big name people to shut up....they aren't going to do that just to hire Ben McCollum or TJ Otz....that's only for one name. I know there are quite a few things thrown around, but the fact Jerry has been so silent and even made a comment about BehindTheBench talking so much just seems very very telling to me, but maybe I am crazy

I agree with you.  I think that’s what’s going on here.  It’ll be a glorious sight when this comes to fruition.

I could be wrong, but it seems as if he just came here to post phony stuff -- a bona-fode troll if you will.

I thought the sarcasm was thick enough to prevent anyone from thinking I was claiming to have any information.  I have more ties to the Michigan basketball program (though not to Dusty) than I do at Indiana.  When I posted AI stuff, I started with acknowledging that the coach % stuff was 100% AI generated.  I did not make that up in responses to those original posts, but I wasn't attempting to deceive or troll.  Like everyone else, I am passing time while we wait together.

It's been mentioned that Dolson has been working on this coaching replacement for quite a while.  I seem to recall some talk when Woodson was hired about him being a "bridge" hire or anticipating he wouldn't coach for too many years.

Does anybody recall of anything to this effect was ever officially mentioned by IU or Woodson himself?

I didn't think you were trolling but I missed the AI stuff. You had some stuff in there that is mixed with some rumors we've heard

Someone will remember better than me but I think Dolson said during the opening press conference that Woodson was the bridge or something like that

8 hour check-in time……aaaand still at square one….

We’re all just guessing and speculating and trying to connect random dots.  With that said, Dolson made a great football hire.  He’s been working on this bball for over a year now.   While the lack of any ‘real’ information is frustrating, I think we can hopefully take solace in the fact that Dolson knows what he is doing and iu will end up making a great hire because of Dolson.

I think you really need to chew that sentence down to the bone for a second, And yeah, I cut the rest of the post out because I thought the above deserved special attention, but a couple of other points: What Drew did there is 1 of the greatest reclamation jobs in the history of D1 college sports. That thing was stone dead. And it’s not like it was pre-Sampson IU before Dennehy. It was a $hit job with no resources and always had been. There was literally nothing to build on. And that guy put it on the national map and then some. And the Crean comp, stop it. Nobody alive, including Tom Crean, thinks they’re on a similar level. Drew would be a top 10-15 guy in the country by consensus. Not sure he’d be my guy because there’s some temperament stuff I’d need to get comfortable with, but the idea that maybe he’s not really that good, c’mon.

....all I can say to this is the more quiet it is and less getting out, the more it's in our favor to land a good one. Not just Stevens, but any potential coach. However, this great "dam of secrecy" that Dolson has created is not going to be able to hold certain things back much longer. Something will have to spill.

I'm prepared for Mick Cronin.  Or maybe Dusty pulls an FAU on Michigan and it's Dusty afterall.
