General Coach Candidate News

Holy smokes. McCollum is not it. Dude hasn’t even coached 1 year in college basketball division 1 let alone none at a high major. There are so many more qualified people than him lol. And we wonder why we have to make coaching changes every 3-5 years. This is prime example. Move on. McCollum isn’t it.

Pitino Jr got run out of minnesota. Minnesota!!! Doing good in new Mexico is nothing he doesn't play anyone good. Cronin I'd take but bronwell has been very very average over his career. You can't base the hire because he finally had one good year. His career is totally average.

Okay then. Forget about Pitino. What if I told you we could get a former B1G coach of the year who’s have a crazy good season in a really good conference, and this guy is young.

Would that guy interest you?

I thought archie taught us that it is not the route to go. He may end up being great but we can't take the risk anymore. We just wasted 8 years. It's time to win.

I’m not sure anybody is saying we should take McCollum over Stevens, Pearl, Drew, or even Buzz….but a lot of people on this forum want Cronin, Brownell, or even Pitino Jr., I think some of us would prefer taking a shot with McCollum that’s all, of course there are better, very expensive top coaches, but rumors don’t indicate that is the direction we are going?

Because that would be absolutely as good a hire as Stevens and quite possibly even a better hire.
Goodman talking up Otz for IU really intrigued me.

I wouldn’t go that far at all. Has a system and gets guys to compete. But UNLV was rough. Iowa State has been really good for 2 years. He’s 47. That’s nice.

Could make the argument even Will Wade is the better candidate on paper.

Stevens with his clout and NBA/general basketball connections would be something else.

Of course not, as long as they are actually looking at bringing in an elite coach. But if they just want to bring in a mediocre safe guy to finish in the upper third of the conference each year, why not take A shot at a guy like McCollum?

Anyway, I am officially going to stop rambling on about McCollum, I know people are getting tired of reading it. I like him, but only for the above reasons, I am all about going for an elite proven winner and I hope that is the direction we take!

Yeah I was joking. He’s not my first choice, but he’s a better option than some of the names being thrown out for sure.

No on Holtman? I'm confused because he's not having a good year. Who you talking about? I'd say Groce but he didn't win B1G COY

You didn't ask me, but it's a trick question.

You're still referring to ...

Richard Pitino agrees to one-year extension through 2022 with Minnesota Golden Gophers - ESPN
