I have no idea what Armond Hill does, but I can guarantee you it is nothing remotely approximating the duties of a modern MBB college GM. Those guys coordinate recruiting, manage NIL negotiations, etc. I am 99.9% sure Armond is doing none of that.

He sleeps. A lot.

What are the chances that McCollum somehow stops being elite by going to Indiana?

In a vacuum? Same chances as any other mid major darling.

If you’re really into him and think he has that special sauce, then maybe that ups the odds. But almost every coach in the B1G will be better than the ones in his current conference. He’ll also have to navigate recruiting at Indiana which will be different than anything he’s ever done.

After a little break of about 5 years this coaching search has motivated me to come back to see if this board has gotten any smarter than in the past. How’s everyone been? It feels good to be back.

Welcome back. No, most are still falling for the same rumors of the past.  I’m still here looking just in case I’m wrong lol.

Not sure where the idea comes from that Dolson wouldn’t have “retired” Woody mid-season unless he already has his man lined up. IMO that was Dolson trying to get ahead of Assembly Hall becoming a zoo before the Michigan game. That’s it. I don’t buy the logic that making the announcement mid year was in any way “tipping our hand” and giving other schools time to work out an extension that wouldn’t have already been getting done. IMO it was strictly about the home environment and nothing to do with Woody “giving us the finger” as Kathy stated or indicative that Dolson - in February - already has his candidate lined up.
Well if he had his guy it wasn't may. May is gone.

Highlighted by the fact that he had to start 4 D2 transfers

His D2 transfers are likely equal or better players than most guys in his conference. Very Top of D2 is often as good as anyone in d1 not in the high majors or highest midmajors. And those guys were the tippy top of D2.

It blows my mind that Indiana University fans would be upset at the hire of Ben McCollum because he came from a lesser division.

Remind me, how did that work out with our football team?

There were people who said dusty wasn't proven and didn't want to hire him last year. But with a make or break hire for the program they want to hire Ben m. That is a massive risky hire.

What do you mean? They just had lost their coach (Devries) and roster!!! Highlighted by the fact that he had to start 4 D2 transfers…..And again, pace being used against him without any useful context, whatsoever. They get more shots than their opponents and are far more efficient than their opponents. They shoot almost exclusively 3’s and shots at the rim.

With Cronin we know our floor. We also know we aren’t getting an elite coach.

After his recent comments, I don’t think he handles the fishbowl well.

He’s beating Miami earlier when they had Larranaga, and has road wins at Vanderbilt and Kansas State.

What he’s doing this season alone is far more impressive than what Cronin is doing at UCLA.

With Cronin we are very likely a continuation of the current iteration of UCLA… that’s fine. But that’s not what we’ve all been hungry for. We’ve been wanting a climb back to being elite.

Our fans simply don’t get it. We think that we are going to go steal an elite winning coach from another school. That’s not happening! That line of thinking is what cost us Dusty May. Whoever takes the shot first is going to reap the rewards.

I’m lukewarm on Cronin btw. Wouldn’t be upset, wouldn’t be thrilled. I’d bet my house that we’ll be hiring a new coach inside 5 years.

The current iteration of UCLA is better than any iteration of IU this century. If we don’t think Cronin can win at IU when he’s done well at both Cincinnati and UCLA, why would we think a coach who’s a complete unknown at this level would do better? It makes zero sense to me.
