Hornsby Posted March 7 Posted March 7 So this will sound crazy; I'm starting to see the outline of a Brownell hire making sense. His best two years have been the last two, which coincides with the NIL era. He would have better NIL at IU than Clemson. He's coached at this level before, and has engaged and beaten the best teams in the country often enough to know what an eilite team looks like up close. Think that's the argument. Can't tell if it's the Coaching Search Stockholm Syndrome talking...Sounds like trying to talk ourselves into thinking the Woodson hire would work. Bronwell is an average coach youu can't go off of two years only. I don't think he would ever go any further than crean did.Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk JPCIVOP, SlammySammy, VFury and 1 other 4

Hard to say whether it is true or not, or charactersitics of other factors (roster construction, portal additions, scheduling, etc.). Definitely not trying to be antagonistic with that last part - I am glad you brought that up for discussion. JPCIVOP 1

Point is a lot of really average names get thrown out, and we all want a winner. To me McCollum is the Cignetti hire. For whatever reason, he didn’t move up to the big stage in head coaching until later in his career, but he wins wherever he goes. Not saying he’s our best option but I’d have him in that Top 5 to talk to. SlammySammy and IUguy77 2

Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk It's like Woodson, except that Woodson had never coached in college, where Brownell has coached a top-25 team the last two years. Think your point is true in this way: it does feel like talking ourselves into a candidate.

He's addressed that, and there are basically 2 reasons: 1) He wanted to be sure the place he went to has the resources and commitment level sufficient for him to win, and 2) He loves Iowa and especially wanted to go to a school in Iowa, which he refers to as "God's country." cybergates 1

He basically said he recruits players for their offense since offensive is what wins championships. An old basketball coach I used to know said something similar. D2 wonder boy will not be the next HC at IU its a flat non-starter for me . One good season in the Mo valley means NOTHING. Schertz won 30 games last year and is middle of the pack at St Louis this year. Millions of dollars in NIL to manage, being able to recruit the portal/ Indiana HS/ National prep schools all stuff McCollum has 0 experience with. I refuse to believe that McCollum is getting talked about for more than 5 secs. I guess since the search is going on as long as it is makes it unique, maybe you are trying to get your Moneys worth out of the search firm. Him and Brownell would be the ONLY two hires that would make seriously for the first time in life consider NOT watching / attending IU basketball games You may be right, we will see. only said he was being vetted so don't need to go throwing away your IU fandom card just yet I don't want brownell, such a meh hire. but i do like watching his teams play, does more with less and a fun offense to watch (most shots are 3s or at the rim). just hope we do much, much better. very much a mark pope or pat kelsey type of hire Any way, these threats of not being a fan any longer if we hire 'X' are always funny to me. you know you will still watch games and if the new coach wins you'll be back on the train quicker than a pick-pocketer on adderall - Jackal Rusty Shackleford, 8bucks, mamasa and 9 others 12
