When the dust settles and a coach is hired some on here might be disappointed with the hire and be let down however I promise you that the sun will come up the next day and after processing the hire everyone will be back on here hoping for the best and ready for this program to be turned around.

Yes, I thought so. I just remember hearing Ned's name a lot in the past searches but not Fuzzy's. This time Fuzzy name has popped up more and Andy Mohr. I haven't seen it but I hear Fuzzy has a really nice place on Marco Island.

There is being religious, and then BEING RELIGIOUS, to the point where you try to push it onto the players/ staff etc...

 

Thats where this becomes an issue (especially with recruits) because some may find that offputting especially since there are many flavors of religion (Judaism, Islam, etc)

 

I give zero ***** about the religion/beliefs of our coach...  I just dont want them to push it on the players...

The same goes for political beliefs...

We are covering every end of the spectrum now. I guess we are looking for an occasional church going but maybe only goes on holidays.

Being heavily involved with religion definitely doesn't equal being morally good. I think thats one distinction some of us are kind of saying. Another is that pushing a specific flavor of religion onto others via peer pressure or team culture is not in line with the university's mission. If Drew is personally very religious, that's his choice and I support his freedom of choice. If he requires or influences the team unduly in anyway to follow his religious beliefs, then that's a problem. I have no idea if that's the case, just the arguments I'm seeing. The guy can coach though for sure.

Something I’ve been wondering about the revenue sharing: if IU is committed to giving such a big slice to men’s hoops, how will this affect women’s hoops and football? IU is nationally competitive in so many sports, too. Does anyone know how Cignetti or others feel about this?

From my own experience, this is where superior managers and leaders can get it right or get it very wrong.

Being very religious and devout is absolutely fine. Having staff (or in this case players) that are very religious or devout is absolutely fine. The trouble comes when it is perceived to be a condition for acceptance in the group or favor with the leader. 

I would have also a problem with Bruce Pearl requiring attendance at Jewish services for non-Jewish players or highlighting solely  Jewish prayers pre-game. There should be a clear message that being religious is a personal choice, not a team requirement. Once that's done? Go for it ... but on one's own time. And it's not enough to not require participation.. To have a particular religion established during team meetings creates tremendous pressure for the players of a different religion to not rock the boat, but that doesn't make them any less uncomfortable.

So a guy like Drew would and should adjust at a public university that has no established religious affiliation. This is some really tricky stuff if there is not forethought and handled correctly. FWIW;  I have no doubt that Drew is really smart and perfectly capable of handling this correctly.

Running off good coaches and staff that didn't share his beliefs expedited his firing, so I'm not sure if that's the way to go. Personally? I'm able to trust and work with people even if we don't think the same way. Again, I hope Drew wouldn't have that same problem.

Don't forget the part Nothing about his coaching bothers me. But that doesn't fit the narrative 

I know that just saying there's no such thing as a perfect coach. Well stevens maybe. Bur everyone else will have some sort of issue people don't like.

Nothing at all. I think some may fear that it will be/might be pushed within the program and be a turn off. jmo

Does he push it at Baylor? I am pretty sure many of his players over the years weren't religious. If it was an issue I'm sure it would have come out
