I think I have told this story but if not I was at the UCLA game talking with someone from the athletic Department about the coaching search. Rabby walked by and they pointed at him and said when the new coach is decided he will be one of the last to know. Said he burned a lot of bridges last season.

That’s awesome lol

I just don’t buy the Drew talk. Yes, Big Ten money is different, but Baylor has great NIL and is a basketball school. He’s lived in Waco since 2003, has a brand new arena to play in as well. He hasn’t accepted any other job but would listen to Indiana because he grew up there? I don’t buy it.

Yes you can argue the Stevens talk is similar, however, Stevens isn’t a coach currently. Coaches don’t just quit coaching, he’ll be a coach again somewhere. He has the itch to coach again.

Not sure if the NIL situation is great or not. Stu posted a video a couple of weeks back from some Baylor folks that stated that Drew had to raise money to finish his roster and was pretty unhappy about it. That was the 1st time I thought Drew might be possible.

And explains when we did make the right hire, we sent him packing for making more phone calls.

In fairness... He received a show cause penalty from the NCAA. We couldn't have kept him if we wanted to.

“I guarantee u if he does [commit to another school] he will be in Colombia for the spring and summer and next year. Don’t forget it,” the text message read.

If we have higher-ups butthurt about an assistant coach 12 years ago making that statement, not even Drew's words, they need to remove themselves from the decision-making process and go coach 8yr old league softball. Everyone gets a trophy, yayyyy

@Artie86

There is a little more to the story including improper texting and the reports that led to Perea’s suspension over the laptop. Regardless, it’s about program integrity and it begins and ends with the head coach.

It's wild because he burned bridges with a lot of the fanbase, too. At least those paying close enough attention to know who the program beat writers/reporters are. I'll never understand what he was thinking with his behavior and ties to HH. His community has become so insular. It's a shrinking ecosystem dependent on everyone there viewing Rabjohns as some kind of all-knowing source who deigns to provide them with "tidbits" and "chatter" as he sees fit. So, so bizarre. Almost cultish.

My biggest fear with Drew is that he’s on the downward side of the mountain.

Aside from that, everything I’ve read is that they really love their new state of the art home and their new basketball facility and they are really proud of their accomplishments there, so I don’t foresee him up and moving at this stage of the game I can see retirement in the not to distant future.

12 years ago lol

Regardless, this is a big bucket of nothing, you and others(apparently donors) act like Hanner Perea is worth sticking up for to begin with? He isn't.

He is a top notch recruiter and a good coach. He is only 53 so he had a good 15 years left

There was more to it and some of the higher ups had to deal with very real backlash and ramifications from everything that happened at the time.

It's very cultish. No one is allowed to bring anything up without it being OK'd by Rabby. People get vilified by it.

Just saying Brad Stevens over there it is either deleted, laughed at, or made fun of. But anyone with any bit of sources, contacts, or slight detective work can figure out that there was more to it than what Goodman said. He just dismisses everything because he checked it out. Well, Rabby you might check something out again.

Supposedly Kentucky was the one school that he thought he would uproot and go to if they ever came calling and they didn’t even go for that.

He built a Mecca there and why on earth would he want to come here and start all over,  that just sounds crazy..

He finished in first twice and third twice in conference the last four years. Yeah what a downward spiral.

This is the weird vibe I get as well. The way he talks down to his audience is gross since he's really become a gossip and rumor peddler and not a basketball guy. Since they got in bed with the Hysterics, he's been a character, not a journalist. Those guys are the Kardashians of Indiana basketball.

If you are arguing we shouldn't want Drew, not sure what to say.

"very real backlash" what does this even mean?

I think the point is that the compliance department turned it in in the first place as opposed to not handling it internally and/or not cooperating with the NCAA like all other high profile institutions have done that they end up investigating.
