Kind of the same problem as McCollum without as much success. No experience at a high-major program (successful or not). Not time at D1 but has had some success in those 5 years with his team improving. Not as much success as McCollum at the D2 level. 

Has been at that school for a while now but still young at 44.

Pretty big risk. 

Are you familiar with him or the team at all? What's the style of play? Do his teams have an identity?

I also want to echo what athleticdept has said. Though not absolutely conclusive, don’t Scott Dolson’s actions regarding scheduling demonstrate he has faith in his pick? Not to mention a former player’s sudden involvement with the team recently. 
 

if Scott Dolson is Hansel and Gretel-ing me only to eat me, the last thing I’ll remember is the thought of Brad on the sidelines before I’m dead. A guy could do worse.
