How so? His first name he threw out was Rick Pitino.

IMO it means nothing.  Pitino himself may have contacted Goodman and said hey, I need a little PR.  Until a coach craps the bed like Woody has, sportswriters and coaches are going to be pretty buddy buddy.

Maybe since we have a football team now we can stop being a fishbowl

Unfortunately I don't think this ever goes away. Big reason? The national media that loves to make fun of us, call us insane for thinking IU should be elite, and generally runs the fanbase down for living in the past-- also loves putting IU basketball on national TV, loves positing stories about us, and knows we drive content. No matter how good we are.

I have lived all over the place since I left Bloomington for the last time. One thing I never had to worry about? Seeing my alma mater play basketball. I have paid for numerous extra subscriptions/cable packages over the last 20 years to watch our terrible football team. It is no coincidence IU always ends up on a B1G+ game early season. Because our fanbase will pay for it to watch. IU basketball will always be a fishbowl. The media love to hate us.

Brady is hatable because

  1. He's a cheater
  2. Boston fans are the worst so it's easy to hate everything about him
  3. He always whined to the refs
  4. He got all the credit for teams successes

Not because he won a lot

Haters gonna hate. He is the GOAT and a Colts fan hate him bc he is better than Manning and kept the Colts from multiple Super Bowls. I say this as a 49ers fan.

I'm not a big Goodman fan but that logic doesn't really work in this case.

I think Goodman is clearly right that Otz is a good choice, the issue with Goodman (and other access journalism) is when he ventures his opinion it’s impossible to tell if he’s

1. Giving a straightforward, sincerely held opinion, or

2. Performing an explicit or implicit favor to a source he maintains.

His reporting is fine, but lots of college bball media is driven by reporters’ access to coaches.

That’s very possible, but I just have some hesitations about it coming to fruition. I know NIL has changed the game, but it can also only get you so far. Would we still lose out on Harrelson and Mullins if Cronin is at the helm…? I know it’s a lot of what ifs, but I feel like Cronin is a solid back up plan to the back up plan, to that back up plan.

Here’s the thing. I wouldn’t be mad or upset with Cronin, I think he would do good here, I just think there are better options that we need to go through first.

Yeah I’m with you on better options. I think once you get past Stevens, Pearl, Oats, Donovan, Drew etc, then it becomes much more of cutting hairs between quality coaches.

Will Wade is under a show cause through June.

He is ineligible for consideration (thank goodness).

You can hire a coach to start effective June 1. Just saying. He can unofficially be recruiting and can hire an entire assistant staff while he waits out a timeframe. Don’t believe it will happen but the show cause isn’t an issue.

I agree.  Although we hate it, keeping things quiet is important until this deal is signed and delivered. There’s an interesting story along these lines regarding when Bob Knight was hired.

Some of you are aware of Rogers Group Crushed Stone in Bloomington. In the mid seventies Rick Rechter, the grandson of the founder Ralph Rogers, was the president of the Bloomington division of the company. There were two other brothers, also presidents in their respective divisions in Nashville Tn., and Louisville where I worked.  All three were big supporters of their respective universities, ie., IU, UL, and Vandy.

The story goes: Bob Knight was under consideration for the Wisconsin HC job a couple of years before he was hired by IU. It seems like he became angry when his name was mentioned in connection with the job and he withdrew.  So, when Knight was negotiating with IU his absolute requirement was he would not sign the deal until he was present at IU when it was announced. Rogers Group has a fleet of planes they use to get around to all their facilities.  So, ole Rick, supporter, donor and friend of Knight flew out to get him and brought him back for the announcement, and the rest is history.

I heard this when I was working there in the mid eighties. I do know several folks on my team caught a ride with Knight on their planes when we were moving around the divisions a lot.

However, whether the story is true or not, I do believe they are concerned with leaks messing up the deal which is why the word is getting out to quiet down.

I can't speak to the flight info, but the stuff about Wisconsin and the news leaking is absolutely true... Knight was at West Point when he heard about the news leaking from Madison and called them, backed out and re-uped with Army...came to IU in 1972.

Loose lips sink coaching deals.

This story has been documented many times in the media...

Gotta believe that is why this sites juicy leaks have all but dried up .  I'm guessing in some way our Hansel and Gretel ( @ap2345 and @Uspshoosier)have been encouraged to dispense with the bread crumb trail.
