It blows my mind that Indiana University fans would be upset at the hire of Ben McCollum because he came from a lesser division.

Remind me, how did that work out with our football team?

There were people who said dusty wasn't proven and didn't want to hire him last year. But with a make or break hire for the program they want to hire Ben m. That is a massive risky hire.

Well if he had his guy it wasn't may. May is gone.

Yes shot my theory all to hell. I thought his guy was May.

What do you mean? They just had lost their coach (Devries) and roster!!! Highlighted by the fact that he had to start 4 D2 transfers…..And again, pace being used against him without any useful context, whatsoever. They get more shots than their opponents and are far more efficient than their opponents. They shoot almost exclusively 3’s and shots at the rim.

With Cronin we know our floor. We also know we aren’t getting an elite coach.

After his recent comments, I don’t think he handles the fishbowl well.

He’s beating Miami earlier when they had Larranaga, and has road wins at Vanderbilt and Kansas State.

What he’s doing this season alone is far more impressive than what Cronin is doing at UCLA.

With Cronin we are very likely a continuation of the current iteration of UCLA… that’s fine. But that’s not what we’ve all been hungry for. We’ve been wanting a climb back to being elite.

Our fans simply don’t get it. We think that we are going to go steal an elite winning coach from another school. That’s not happening! That line of thinking is what cost us Dusty May. Whoever takes the shot first is going to reap the rewards.

I’m lukewarm on Cronin btw. Wouldn’t be upset, wouldn’t be thrilled. I’d bet my house that we’ll be hiring a new coach inside 5 years.

The current iteration of UCLA is better than any iteration of IU this century. If we don’t think Cronin can win at IU when he’s done well at both Cincinnati and UCLA, why would we think a coach who’s a complete unknown at this level would do better? It makes zero sense to me.

McCollum is the most intriguing candidate IMO. Lot of valid points for and against. I doubt we go with him but also think it’s likely he ends up a pain in our backside at Iowa along with Dusty at UM.

If we get a good coach…Big if…it would actually be nice to have Dusty up at UM and other good coaches making the B1G the best conference.

If we don’t get a good coach, then…just pain

I thought they were the same thing. How many airports you got down there

I think each county has their own, but I think Floyd Counties can’t land private jets.

To me, it’s that I think Mick Cronin would produce similar results to what we saw in the Tom crean era and McCollum could be better.

McCollum is riskier but has a higher ceiling IMO

The only one I’m ever speaking about is Clark Co.

You mean the guy that was Nick Saban’s assistant at Alabama for multiple years? And had his non-power 5 team ranked in the top 25?

Apples to oranges my friend.

Minutiae kind sir.

Michigan doesn’t make exceptions for transfers unless they are grad transfers.  Not the same as northwestern but there are limits.  If Danny Wolf had been Joe Schmoe from Auburn instead of an Ivy League guy, it might have been an issue.

Michigan football without question makes exceptions - very, very easily. They often use the ‘academically ineligible’ excuse only when they’ve changed their mind on a recruit for other reasons/concerns.  It’s a soft way to back out - that further promotes their ‘high standards’ propaganda. eg. Caleb Love  It then slips that a player is academically ineligible…purposeful furthering the public perception of their esteemed educational standards.

That being said, much more difficult to get into than Indiana as a non-athlete undergrad.
