It’s May or Stevens for me or bust,  then you might as well take a chance on McCollum or someone like Kevin Young and let them try to create their own history here with all the resources at their disposal.
I’m frankly pretty impressed with Kevin Young, but I’d rather stay away from someone that’s had a long tenure at some other college and growing long in the tooth.

Isnt he in his first year as a college coach??

And I always heard he never had the players on a schedule.  Like they get a text saying practice in a half hour don’t be late.  Maybe @Chris007 can confirm that.

Bielfeldt basically confirmed this:

Beilein is known by his players for planning out every minor detail in the team’s practice and workout schedule a month in advance, so when Bielfeldt gets a text from Crean saying the team has the day off just a few hours before practice, the difference between the two can be glaring.

“It’s very bizarre and different to compare the two coaching styles,” Bielfeldt said. “Coach Crean’s definitely a more passionate guy, while Beilein is more of a, I’ll use the word ‘Mastermind,’ sitting back and trying to see the big picture and weigh things out.”

“Coach Beilein is more of a teacher,” Bielfeldt said. “He’ll want you to be able to sit in the film room for an hour and be able to describe every cut and name it something so everyone has their own language, whereas (Indiana coach Tom) Crean will kind of just throw you out on the floor and have you run stuff and kind of coach while he goes.”

I know that I couldn't stand Richard Pitino at Minnesota....but I am so intrigued by him as a potential candidate?

I feel given the right situation and resources, he could be just as effective as a Rick, Sr. or Donovan.  I keep telling myself I know we can do better.  Top 3 or 4 if we miss on #1 and #2?

In those 5 years Bennett averaged 22 wins per year and an average conference finish between 2 and 3. In his last 5 years here Crean averaged about 20 wins and an average conference finish of about 5th.

Crean didn't have the consistency of Bennett, inconsistency was one problem with Crean.

After the first 3 years of Crean (which we all seem to think are just mulligans, given the state of the program he inherited), here are his B1G finishes:

5th
1st
8th
7th
1st
10th

He was the absolute definition of inconsistent. LOL

Might as well call him Steve Alford Jr.  Same career arc.

I'd prefer to stay away from candidates who got fired from P-5 jobs, especially those within our own conference. I think that makes it a harder sell to the fans, and this next hire can't be a tough sell.

I spoke to a player that played for Crean a couple years after he graduated at a party.  The ex-player was very intoxicated at the time and you would not believe some of the stories he told me and my buddies about Crean.  He wasn't the perfectly behaved person and coach he tries to make himself out to be.

I’m impressed that he played for Crean, after graduating at a party

Watching the video of Rabby and Trevor talking about the coaching search on Peegs my first thought is. Who are two guys who have never played ball in their life for $200 Alex. Just kidding though. Lots of good information but nothing too earth-shattering.

Sorry we are getting away from the real reason for this thread but this statement is why I think Crean was terrible (using that lightly) at the end of his UGA tenure as it coincided with the new portal rules.

his best teams were veteran teams that seemingly were used to all of the manic behavior and could tune in what was important.  You bring in a bunch of new players each year to that style of coaching, it is a recipe for disaster.

He is in a great spot.  He loves to talk and TV gives him that avenue.

I’d be surprised to see Bennett coach again.  He left Virginia due to the different landscape of collegiate athletics.

Exactly this. I rather have Jay Wright even so. These two coaches have made their intentions clear, they are done with today’s college basketball.

Semi-serious question lol.....How many times did you "ask the 8 ball" before you got the answer you wanted it to say?

P.S. This is not a dig...I'm Sweden on Brad..would love to have him, not sure what to think if he is actually still considering.

We’re going to hear a different every story until the end of March is my take so no need to freak about anything that comes out until then. Seems as though next years coach is going to be great regardless

We should start playing BINGO with different cards of coaches, kind of like Business buzzwood bullsh*t BINGO (or some version of it). LOL

I would love it if Dolson's dept was responsible for some of the disinformation going around. I would love to think that they were that competent...

If you’ve ever listened to Hysterics podcast, multiple players have confirmed it.  Not a secret.  And a crazy way to run things.  He claimed it helped them be ready to adapt when things didn’t go their way in games.  Dumb.

I thought flash cards were for that.

Just caught up from this morning.  So it's Stevens, not Stevens, maybe Stevens, May (if we can convince him), Drew, Beard, Tony Bennett if we can convince him, not Tony Bennett, can't be convinced and we don't want him.  Plus Ballo walked out on the team.

I like how an active player, probably our best player, went MIA for a weekend and it's just background chatter to the revolving door of random coaches being floated back and forth lol
