Not sure when you are at a place like Virginia tech you are expected to be competing for conference titles. A&M not really known for being a basketball powerhouse and he has done some good things there in his time. 15-3 conference record and finishing second seems impressive to me. I get it though IU should be in a place where they can do better however from my point of view he is the exact kind of coach IU needs if the top guys say no. College basketball grinder I hear you and love these conversations. Buzz has been coaching in a big boy conference since 2008 - almost 20 years - and, while he's had some good years/teams - he hasn't proven that he's a guy that will take us where we all want to go on a consistent basis - which is key for me - I don't want a year every 5 or 6 where we're good. I want a consistent winner. He screams Tom Crean 2.0 to me. Decent coach, high energy, fans will fall in love with him, but in the end - the results won't be good enough. Not a bad backup option, I agree. HoosierDevils, Uspshoosier and bird4par 3

Do you think SD would be hesitant to hire another alumn and his friend knowing there's a real possibility he'd have to fire him? The optics of firing back to back alumni wouldn't be good at all. And personally for Scott, firing a friend wouldn't be great either. Clearly there's a chance they ride off into the sunset together as well. No, I don't think Scott would have a problem hiring Dusty. If he hires him, I think he believes Dusty is the best man for the job. Dusty knows the risks, I think if he got fired, he would understand why. He is the anti-Woodson, thank goodness. cybergates and rcbowla 2

I feel like he was a pretty notable name in IU media at the time and the BD stuff came from him. That’s purely off of memory though so someone can correct me if I misremember. I don’t remember Albers role. A lot of back and forth between us and HSN board at that time. Supposedly those guys were well connected. Mile and 0708 and some others over there.

Maybe the sort of thing Purdue fans troll IU fans about. Wouldn't let that influence the decision. Really wish we just hired Dusty last offseason. Gary Parrish calling a spade a spade and saying how stupid we were for not firing Woody last year and hiring Dusty is like the most normal national take I’ve heard. We could have had him, we should have had him, and now he’s in first place at a place with as much money as IU if not more. thebigweave, BannerVille, lillurk and 4 others 7

I mean Woodson isn’t mad at QB for his forced retirement so I assume if that were to happen then Scott can be forced by the board to remove Dusty

lillurk Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Yeah @Hovadipo is right, I think Albert’s was Rivals staff st the time, had done the rounds at ITH and maybe 247. He reported Donovan news that no one else verified (though there was board chatter) and I think history has borne out that he was incorrect

If Dusty comes in last year what portal players does he grab with Reneau, gallo, and MM back. Those three just don’t seem coachable at all. I don’t think rice or Carlyle or Ballo come though and instead it’s Wolf and who knows who else. BannerVille 1

Ranked every year and sweet 16 every year or banner year every year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Well since he’s been anointed the savior of the program for at least 10 years now I’d say expectations aren’t sweet 16. My question is how many 20 point beat downs in Mackey til the fans turn on him? That will continue as long as Painter is there. Home Jersey 1

If that potato can do that, I think anyone else will be just fine. And people have all different expectations, thats why I asked what yours were just to gauge what people thought. You make it sounds like it happens allThe time. Woodson has beat them more times than 20 points losses in 27 years for god sakes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk thebigweave and Pagoda 2
