You can see what the change in ownership has done to the Mavericks, and you can see who's getting the blame for it, their GM NIco. Getting out now gives him a free ticket to go back for big money into another GM job, no matter what he does coaching. The Celtics as constructed have nowhere to go but down. The Celtics have been very good to Brad. They made him their head coach after 6 years of mid-major college experience. Then after a Woodyesque 7 years as a professional coach, moved him to the front office and now pay him 11+mill a year to build championship rosters. Which he has done. That's why it has been ludicrous to think he would go back to coach college for anyone. SlammySammy, jonz44 and rayl456 2 1

At least that's been what's been advertised. So if Indiana gets asked (and they will) they have to go. "Under terms of the proposed arrangement, the top 16 teams in the Big 12, Big East and Big Ten that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament — as ranked by the NET — would be required to play in the Fox event even if they are invited to the NIT. Those three leagues have rights deals with Fox. The network also has a rights agreement with the Pac-12, but it is unclear whether that league would be added due to complications arising from the Pac-12’s impending realignment defections." https://web.archive.org/web/20231012034237/https://themessenger.com/sports/fox-sports-mens-college-basketball-proposed-tournament-las-vegas I can’t confirm whether or not it’s required to attend if chosen, if it is, I don’t think a lot of teams are going to have a FULL roster to compete. The portal opens up on the 24th for Men, this tournament begins the 31st. This doesn’t make sense for coaches/players that want to hit the portal as soon as it starts. I read the players will be paid for competing, but again, what if they want out of their current school and want to compete in the portal? What if that player gets hurt while intending to enter the portal? This tournament needs to occur in November, not early April. SlammySammy, lillurk, Crazy about IU and 1 other 4

I’m personally expecting an NBA announcement whether it be a Brad Stevens or Billy Donovan. Maybe throw Jay Wright in there, that announcement would be Monday-Wednesday of next week. If Indiana makes the dance, we’ll find out the following week. I’d say it’s Brad Stevens / Jay Wright / Billy Donovan. Ben McCollum will go to Iowa. Brownell I don’t believe is a serious candidate despite media rumblings. At least he shouldn’t be a serious candidate. I’d be absolutely shocked if he was the guy. If it's one of those 3 then I gotta think it's Stephens - solely because of the quiet nature of all this. Ultimately the Stephens are tight knit and Tracy makes sure it stays that way. She manages all facets of the legal side and money - playing agent/manager/lawyer (Brad's mentioned it in a number of interviews). That being said it'd be over the moon over 90% of the coaches mentioned in this thread - but any of this 3 are a grandslam imho. JPCIVOP, Trish and HoosierInParadise 3

The suits don’t want to see Langdon hatton and walk ins play. And northwestern has also indicated they won’t play. Worst case IMO is you see a team have to pay some ‘opt out’ fee. lillurk 1

But I’d consider them guys you would announce after the season potentially concludes on Sunday for an announcement next week. I have a hard time buying the media knows anything about the current search. Frankly, the only people who reported Woodson as a serious candidate were from the NBA, not college media. Nonetheless, Sunday will tell us when to expect an announcement. JPCIVOP, lillurk, HoosierSadaseci and 3 others 2 4

What if they want to stop paying the luxury tax? What if they say he has to pick between Jaylen Brown and Kosplay Kobe? He might just as easy bolt to another NBA GM gig if he doesn't like what he hears. He moved out from coach before he started getting the heat on them not winning the big game.

Yes, but there is a long time between now and next October's Hoosier Hysteria. The new coach will have to pretty much replace the entire team. To get a winner year 1, I believe we need a name to get the players in here to compete at a high enough level to win big. I'm not saying anyone has to agree with me, but I think IU has fallen too far down, become a laughing stock amongst the traditional blue bloods...need some name validation with this hire. What is your definition of winning in year 1. I want a coach who will bring a culture of toughness and smart play. I want a coach who is long term who will recruit to his system and not go just for stars. I want a coach who will build his roster by high school kids and supplement tbe roster with the portal. If that takes a couple of years until we are competing for the conference title and making a run in the tournament. I don't want to have to bring in a new roster every time eat through the portal SlammySammy and BGleas 2
