I’m not saying it’s an echo chamber of people who think he is a strong possibility. But I don’t personally know an IU fan who thinks we have much of a shot. The issue with McCollum is it’s too big a jump. The issue with Brownell is he’s an average coach. But if IU makes a good hire, most people will not be upset it’s not Stevens. I agree...there are a lot of names that will unite the majority of the fan base, but we need to get a freaking NAME. Gotta make a splash. People bring up Duke, UK, even UL as schools that didn't make a splash hire. We NEED it more than any of them. IU's mediocrity has settled in for too long to make a blah hire. What name would you be happy with? I’d be fine with McDermott or Shaka. HoosierInParadise 1

HoosierInParadise Posted March 14 Posted March 14 We don't need a name, we need a good coachI'd say both. Can't afford to have this much time to find the answer, have plenty of money to work with, and walk out someone that doesn't excited people.
SlammySammy Posted March 14 Posted March 14 We’re all currently in different stages of Brownell denial……I’m still in the “lord god help us baby Jesus” stage….Phase 2which is “blind rage” results in pouting and self pity followed by angry arguments between members of the board and eventual short term suspension…lol…..Phase 3 “ Reality and Grief”….sobbing to myself in a corner when I realize that yes, this is where the program is….and of course, phase 4, “Surrender”…..we’ll do it like we’re French….eventually acceptance JPCIVOP, Bowhunter, Silat Player and 1 other 4
Scotty R Posted March 14 Posted March 14 I didn't realize Brownell had that big of a buyout. To me there is no way Dolson would pay an 8 million buyout for a guy like Brownell. I can't remember where I heard this but they said the largest buyout a school has paid in basketball was between 4-5 Million IUBtown, taco corp, str8baller and 2 others 5

When I was a kid, I was a Cowboys fan because they were good and on TV all the time. Haven’t been a Cowboys fan in decades. He has similar ties to a guy like Goode. Obviously Goode loves IU and wanted to play here. Not saying Stevens does, but I wouldn’t say no ties. 8bucks and Chris007 2

One that will create a negative storm for whoever else gets hired. We saw a little bit of it yesterday when people thought it was McCollum. Bingo. HoosierInParadise Posted March 14 Posted March 14 What name would you be happy with? I’d be fine with McDermott or Shaka. I personally would be fine with them, however, I still don't think they make the casual fan excited. We may not be able to get coaches who I think would excite (Stevens, Donovan, Wright, Pearl, Self to a certain degree, etc.). It's just my opinion which doesn't have any influence on the situation whatsoever.

Out of most of the names that have been tossed around here for the past few months, I can't think of too many that I would rank below him on my wish list. There are a bunch of names on the list where I would think, "OK, let's see where this goes...." but he would have about the shortest leash out of all of them. He is Tom Crean at Indiana if he is lucky. And that looks good in comparison to what has been but...meh. I could always be wrong but I think Brownell means we are back here again in 4 or 5 years having missed the tournament 2 or 3 times in his tenure doing all of this nonsense all over again. And if he is what Indiana aspires to be, fine, but the school needs to diial down it's own propaganda around the program exponentially if that is the case. Iowa doesn't get the support of Indiana. They don't pretend they are on a higher level than they are. If we are going to be Iowa, the school needs to act like it. Jet812 1
JF87 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Other schools seem to be moving quickly on identifying their top candidates. I can't believe that Dolson wasted several weeks with paralysis by analysis. Instead, I think Dolson came to an agreement weeks ago with Stevens or Bennett and we are simply having to wait for the season to end to make an announcement. hoosierfan6157, Mr. Hoosier Pride and The Big Cig 3

Ryno6284 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Why did Collins say Northwestern would NOT accept an NIT or Crown invite? Is it because of the injuries, or does he know he is moving on? They don't turn down invites! Is it IU or another job? UVA?

Until the elite eight, the most exciting thing Brownnell had done here was almost land Zion. I am not joking.
