General Coach Candidate News

There's a ton of Will Wade noise right now, in general, for open jobs that both exist (NC State) and those that don't at least yet (Texas). I think a lot of P5 fanbases see him as the unicorn coach w/ mid major success, P5 success, top level recruits, and whose only transgressions are moot given NIL and other recruitment rule changes. I would have no doubt that every fan base has diehard Will Wade fans and that his agency firm is happy to see how many $$$'s they can collect this cycle (which they should as it is their job and basis for income)

He's beat us like a freaking drum.  You have to accept the fact that great players don't go to Northwestern, as most can't get in.   They really don't belong in the Big10.  How would his teams do in the Ivy League?

On the flip side, he gets very intelligent guys who are also good at basketball. Since they're not as highly ranked, they probably don't have much of the egos and hangers-on to deal with.

How would he do with players who are better at basketball but not as intelligent? How would he do with all the crap that comes with high level recruits?

He was an assistant at Duke for 13 years....I'm sure he's recruited and coached a few players that fall into the categories you mentioned.

See you in a few years and by a different name. Most everyone on here has given every coach a legitimate chance. Some knew Archie wasn't the guy from the beginning, some knew sniffed out Woodson. I gave both 3 years before I knew

I liked the Archie hire.  I think he got away from his identity and got kids that didn’t fit him.  He was good with the junk dog warrior types.  We as fans need to get away from the stars and be happy with pieces that can fit.  The next coach should get that.

Woodson was just an idiot hire from the start.  Never built a roster and NBA is so different than college that you think a failed one who struggled with running a smaller lineup in the NBA would change.  I gave him a year or two then realized it wasn’t going to work.

Brownell has basically had like 4 good years out of 16 at Clemson and he's our answer?  LOL

Not a chance.

McCollum?  maybe but I find that hard to believe unless he absolutely crushed the interview and sold a vision.  Doubt this too.

I don't know who it will be but 0 chance its Brownell and small chance its McCollum imo.

I have heard they bought a house in the Center Grove district so their daughter could be a part of the girl's soccer team there which I believe was ranked #1, He has a former player who works there so there is some familiarity.

I appreciate you sharing specifics like this. If I’d heard what you did, I would have posted exactly like you did over the last few weeks.

I definitely understand this perspective, I guess my only continued hang up is that URI fans want him out too for doing basically the same thing he did at IU -- doesn't care about a program's history, doesn't seem to connect with players at all, and frankly doesn't win (he's like 16-31 in the A10 there). And this is with URI having one of the better NIL situations in the A10 after Dayton. They should def be more competitive than he has them, and while I think he's a great dude he just seems like the type of guy that college basketball just went by over the years both in P5 and top mid major.

Stevens was never a real thing, i feel bad for those who believed it. I understand wanting to believe it, we are fans after all, but it was never going to happen.

Mccollum shows every sign of having what it takes to be a great coach. the biggest tell to me is that other coaches (May, Mccasland, Buzz and others) actually call him for his thoughts on their system and how he'd improve it. when successful coaches are calling him for Xs and Os advice, thats big. i would bet for him to win big wherever he lands next, and i'd prefer it's at IU instead of Iowa.

But again, takes 2 to tango. will see if he wants the job. if he goes Iowa, i would happily take Devries as our next coach. I love Alan Huss, he will win big somewhere too, just not a candidate this go around for IU for whatever reason. hope we aren't here again in 4-5 years, but if we are Huss should be at the top of the list then and wants the job

Appreciate your post...however you start off as if you have actual intel...but follow it up with what appears to be your opinion...so if you're throwing in your opinion on the coaching search, then it's hard to believe your intel...you may be legit with legit sources...but this comes across as a poser...

That is a blow to NC State fans. They definitely thought they were in the running for Wade. I suppose it could be a negotiating thing to try to get more money & NIL commitments but the wording seems too harsh to cultivate a working relationship. I think IU is the only bigger job out there? I guess he might be interested in Virginia they seem to be much more into Odom and he seems more of a Nova and Texas guy if they open; but surely this is an attempt at signaling that he's available and looking to get back into the major leagues
