Everyone's coming around on McCollum; if Schertz had stayed at ISU one more year, he might be in position to be the darling hire.

Here's a fun what-if: Schertz stays at ISU for one more year. He brings his team back for one more go-round. Watching them last year vs. watching Drake this year and last year, I have a hard time imagining Drake beating them in the conference tournament again.

I think SLU will be killing it within a year or two, and he'll get a big job. But the irony is that he seems to have set himself back with the IU job by taking a bigger job.

I don't have sour grapes like a lot of ISU people do about it, but his decision there did confuse me a little. Everything I heard was that their small pool of boosters had raised a TON of money to give him and the roster for this season which could've led him to this or a similarly big job in this cycle.

On the other hand, both the AD and President position were in flux at that point last year so I can see how that may have run him off, but so far it seems they nailed both of those hires.

I'd still hire him today and feel set for the foreseeable future.

You would think - unless there is an previously unscheduled event (i.e. announcement) then you wouldn't ask people to be available in a very common vacation period - kinda stuff that would annoy people if nothing happens.

Still think the most logical explanation for this is that AD folks need to be available to manage NCAA game duties.  Handle ticket requests, determine who gets what tiks based on point system, possibly a travel package for bigger donors, pregame rally, in addition to travel arrangements for band, cheerleaders—everything that goes with NCAA games.  Plus all the additional AD staff that must travel.  As to HC, they would need to plan hospitality events for big donors/prospects on the road.  Also HC—why would they need to be prepared to accept donations around an announcement?  Easily done online.  It’s not like people line up in Bloomington and hand over a check:).

Brownell did set the record for most wins in a season at Clemson, if you buy that stat. He also has as much, or more, tourney success than Barnes albeit over a much longer time frame.

With that said, he doesn’t move the needle for me. At all.

Barnes was only there for four years and made the made the tournament three times. Brownell is at four times in fourteen years. He made it his first year and then didn’t make it again until his 8th year. He’s been somewhat better the past few years, but how much of that is due to the ACC being a shell of itself? He went 23-11 and 14-6 in the conference in 2023 and missed the NCAA tournament.

I don't have anything new. @JerryYeagley23 won't be back until there's an announcement most likely. I can't speak for anyone else.

.....I will say this, RTZ's post was definitely a way to get everyone off the Stevens train, whether we like it or not!

Today could be Shrewsberrys last game of the year.  Dolson could announce him as early as tomorrow if that was his guy.   IU instantly gets a McDonald’s all-American on the roster more then likely and they also probably get Stevens to step for in Assembly Hall to watch his son sit the bench in candystripes as a walk-on.   Win win?

Wonder if someone will be there to watch the game. I have heard he might

Hey if we hire Schertz Ryan Conwell might leave Xavier and transfer back home like he should of this year (but instead we get Kannan "chuck a shot right off the bench" Carlyle." )

Gosh I can't wait till the day Yassir Rosemond and his "pipeline of southern talent" leaves Bloomington and never comes back.

High Point is basically a country club with some class rooms lol. He has proven himself as a mid major coach these past two years IMO. His LaLu connection + any recruiting ties he’s developed in the North Carolina / DMV area would be cool here. I’d be very happy with him as the hire.

I'm coming around to Huss... to paraphrase Paul Simon: just hop on the Huss bus!

All our sources got fed the same information this morning. Evidently a Bloomington real-estate agent has been working with Billy D on a farm outside of the city limits near Nashville.

Haha. I went down a dangerous path last night, as some of you may recall I posted on Chris Beard's weird X following/follower list several days ago. There was one notorious Indiana-based realtor who has recently followed Beard.  I've also searched various others, such as Ben McCollum. I can say with [low confidence] based on X analysis that Ben McCollum will be the next Texas Tech Red Raider HC. Would also like to predict that Adam Howard will be joining one of McCollum or Beard next season. Speculation!

I can't believe I'm going to say something even remotely defensive of a hire as bad as Brownell, but the worst hire for that would be one of Thomas/Buckner/Wittman.
I guess but it just seems here we go again. A year late on may and with the top nil in the conference we get ole-what’s-eez-name. The program really is doomed if that's the case

not trying to discredit RoadToZion I am just curious
Jerry was the first to state dolson has his guy. He said it when Woodson retired. I guess we should have just laughed it off as comedy.

On the bright side, at least there is no Turgeon buzz.

With Dusty May signing an extension with UM and the completion of the IU coaching Sweet 16 tournament, our list is complete. How far down the list do you think IU goes?

1 Brad Stevens

2 TJ Otzelberger

3 Mark Few

4 Scott Drew

5 Todd Golden

6 Bruce Pearl

7 Greg McDermott

8 Grant McCasland

9 Chris Beard

10 Ben McCollum

11 Shaka Smart

12 Buzz Williams

13 Mick Cronin

14 Chris Collins

15 Richard Pitino

16 Brad Bownell

17 Mark Turgeon

In those two seasons, he’s been conference coach of the year twice, won conference regular season twice, and has won 80% of his games. Helped design McDermott’s offense at Creighton which people really like, myself included. And he used to coach LaLu, so the in state connections are there presumably.

I think people are overlooking that coaching at LaLu would have given him experience coaching high level talent as well as dealing with  the people around that talent. He also had to recruit that talent.
