Boring? Yes.

Safe? I'm not so sure about that. He's been pretty blah most of his time at Clemson. It's a risk to assume he'd do better at IU.

Is he up for any other big time position? No. This is Indiana University not some reunion team

It’s probably also a lot easier to recruit at IU than Ole Miss.

Probably. Still doesn’t run a fun and conducive offense.

I think Beard would instill a toughness factor in an IU squad that hasn’t been seen in a long time. It’s a quality that is almost impossible to measure or quantify, but it’s certainly observable.

Agree with this. If you watched his Texas Tech teams, you know what he can do—they were blue collar and tough and really easy to root for.

I also really don’t understand everyone pointing to his conference record—he’s had to do the fresh rebuild thing twice in short order (because of his own mistakes). But what Kelsey and May have done this year is a pretty recent phenomenon. A good coach taking a year or two to get up and running used to be normal. Hell look at Pitino’s first year at St. John’s.

Anyway, I am as equally confused by the people who question Beard’s ability to coach as by the people who worry Stevens has “been away too long.”

Man, you guys quote quickly. I initially misread his post which contains the word "not".

Yup. He’s saying Brownell NOT out of running. I’m telling you guys…as painful as it is to say, Brownell is in the running. Get Beard.

The fact that it may already be down to Brownell makes me sad. I would take the Wife beating drinker over him and most of the guys below Brownell.

That's sad.

Listen…I’m not pro Brownell. I agree, it would be an incredibly underwhelming hire. At this point in the process I want Beard. Im just saying what I think the media would say.

If the media likes whoever we pick....that's usually an indication that we chose the nice, safe, "up and comer" - we can't do that any more. Time to take a risk.

If the media throws shade at our pick....that would give me confidence knowing we took a risk and are probably about to win. Most of the national media guys hate IU and think our fanbase is full of delusional jackasses. We attack them all the time on social media and they HATE it.

Case in point - the media would be ecstatic over a Brad Brownell hire.

Delusional jackasses?!  No one here like that!  lol

Rabby now says that Brownell is not out of the running.

Brownell is not out of the running in the same way Beard is not out of the running. They want the job and haven't said no. Means nothing at this point in the search. Could it be either of them? Sure. Likely is not, we are going to hear a bunch more agent driven nonsense before this over. It really has not even started yet since we are obviously targeting sitting head coaches who are still playing basketball. I don't expect anything concrete until after conference tourneys at the absolute earliest, and only if we are gonna hire a cat not in the NCAAs.
