NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Is that what happened?  What was the context of the statement by Ya?

I don't even know that he even said that there were programs cheating.  The reference that was made to a Hoosier Hysterics podcast he did.   The closest I could find was when he was asked if about the portal was him comparing it the NBA, and he said "but at least the NBA is regulated".  If all you look at is that sentence, then he might be indicating cheating.  But the whole context -- before and after that sentence -- stated that the portal was a lot like the NBA in that there was a lot of money being through around with NIL but the NBA was regulated because it had a salary cap, and that some of the numbers he was seeing players in college getting was ridiculous.

So you don't know the context but you're complaining about people using the word complaining in context to it.

Noted.

I don’t know the backdrop to the asserted “complaining” or “cheating” comments or if they even happened whatever they are, not weighing in on that though it strikes me as silly, but what you reference here is just fact, the whole NIL world is the wild west and it should be regulated. I don’t understand anyone who would say otherwise. Ok, maybe Calipari, Self

I don’t disagree about it being an unregulated Wild West, which is basically all that Ya said from what I heard.  He did say that last year NIL really wasn’t much of a factor in transfers but now it is.

Trying to wrap this up for @normandale97, @RaceToTheTop and @Josh. Go to the 38 minute mark of the HH podcast. They are talking about other conferences getting more talent than the B1G. Eric says " . . . but NIL should level the playing field . . ." in regards to cheating. Coach Ya responds that it doesn't.

Also, Coach Ya wasn't convicted by the courts for any wrongdoing and the NCAA cleared him of wrongdoing. He addressed the situation in a HH podcast which aired his first spring/summer in Bloomington.

I hope this helps. Cheers, everyone!

I didn’t really take Ya’s response that it didn’t level the playing field as saying there was cheating.  My take is that since NIL money is different at different places, thd field isn’t going to be level.

NIL was one hundred percent a factor in transfers last year - out of touch comment

I meant to type ‘as’ much of a factor instead of ‘much of a factor. He was comparing it how much NIL is a factor this year compared to last year.  I don’t that is really debatable given how much more movement there is this year and schools increasing the their NIL.

Here is why it is an issue. Because he drops these one liners like so many “fans” and dig at our program. It is never ending. go on Twitter for one day and look at it. You may say, I don’t go on Twitter, etc. ok, but it still exists. Recruits, players, families etc all see it. The internet has made people take what was once a conversation over a beer and feel free to have that same conversation for the world to see.

- staff can’t close, can’t recruit shooters, we lose every recruit, the recruits we got suck, our players suck, we can’t hit free throws, why are they doing Yoga, shoot free throws, Ya is a Joke, Woodson is lazy, on and on and on.

I get it, there is passion. People who watch sports like to complain a little. Sure. We all like to be armchair quarterbacks. But our fans take it way too far and do it all the time. 90% of the time, what they complained about never happened or changed in 24 hours.

I mean we had people sending Trayce letters and sending heaters directly at players on Twitter all the time this year.

I just don’t understand why some of them are fans. Move on. It doesn’t help us at all.

Yes, I know there are a few more crazies like Kentucky fans but what is that saying about if everyone jumps off a bridge ….or if you don’t have anything nice to say….

and typical, claims and posts are made like this and then …. Nothing. Silence. Don’t go half in. You got something to say, say it.

First you say not to say anything that brings up the bad things within the program, then you say we should?  Color me confused.  Please let me know if I'm allowed to make comments or not.

Look, the whole Ya thing happened within the FBI sting.  We're supposed to act like it didn't?   That's not reality.  I like to live in reality.  Sorry it triggers you, but it's a truth.

I have no idea about this cheating conversation but from what I have been told from coaches, not IU coaches, is that some programs are contacting kids before they are in the portal, trying to get them to enter the portal. Which is illegal of course, the other thing is some programs are discussing NIL deals with the players when the rules state that is not allowed. A player's NIL agent should be discussing the NIL deal with a NIL organization for the program. Head coaches should not know how much each player is making.

Happy Tuesday of little 5 week. I've heard our town will get all kinds of visitors for the greatest college weekend and one of them might be a basketball recruit. But that has not been confirmed.

I've been in Bloomington for several Little 5 weekends. Sad thing is that I only have spotty recollection of them. Not sure why that is :-D

Jordan Hulls just started following 6'9" Oklahoma portal entry small forward Jacob Groves on Instagram.

Had a great tournament for Eastern Washington a few years ago, and shot it well with limited attempts while starting about 2/3 of Oklahoma's games last year.

Reminds me of a quote I once saw about Twitter: "90% of Twitter is people imagining a problem, tricking themselves into believing that problem is real, and then getting angry about it."

Definitely not a natural ability swing for the fences. He's a playable 22 year old that's good on catch and shoot and with a high culture/leadership element. OU Coach Moser on Groves:

“Every single day at practice, he brings it,” Moser said. “Every day he communicates. Every day, he’s putting in his time on his shot. He’s an everyday guy. That’s the difference between him and a lot of guys in this generation. It’s every day. Some guys get all fired up and it’s like a New Year’s resolution. People like my age are in the gym for a little bit and then they taper off. Jacob has been every single day.

“Every day, he’s on his prep. He’s getting his shots up. He’s on his nutrition. Success is paying off for him because he is every day. The word I think for Jacob is it’s been ‘consistent’ for him.”
