IU vs O$U Game thread 1/30 7 pm

Jackson was ranked 28th juco player. McSwain was ranked 25th their respective years.

As far as Davis. My argument isn't about this game. It's about the roster for the year and how the season is going . Not THIS game.

It was comparing rosters preseason on paper.

And yes, I've already admitted our guys arent playing to their rankings, but that is both obvious and my point.

Everyone forgets about Thompson, top 100, plus he has a year on campus and is year into Archie's system. I fully anticipate him being our best freshman next year, if aside from Romeo.

In your eye did Davis play like a top 40 player his last year in high school or did you have concerns that top teams were dropping out of his recruitment? Has Johnson played like a top 50 player in his 4 Years here? Out of all that group of players you posted Bates-Diop was by far the best player to come out of high school. He was a borderline McDonald’s all American and was a 5 star in some instances. Before the season if you were picking teams in a pickup game out of those people you listed who are you taking first?

Revisionist thinking. Bates was rated 29th and Davis 40th. That's very close. Bates prior to this season was not playing anywhere near that ability. We all thought Davis was going to have a huge breakout year. One went one way and one got injured. Tate and Rob Johnson are on the same plane before the season. These are the 4 guys I would have drafted first.

Next would be Morgan then probably Wesson and Kam Williams.

I will hold back my judgement of CAM until Justin Smith and Al Durham's senior season, I think it's important to see how he develops those guys, and if he can help them reach their full potential. Time will tell.

I like how the sky is falling and IU is going to be a bottom dweller forever after a game that we were expected to lose![emoji849] I mean really people I don't think their is a coach is the world that could get this team to perform consistently! I for one am happy at the progress that Archie has made with the players that are still teachable! I mean think about how difficult it would be to take team that has never put any effort or had any accountability on defense and get them to where they are now. In the last 10 years have we EVER played defense, had a successful inbounds play, beat a zone defense, or executed any type of half court offense that didn't involve excessive dribbling or a shot clock violation or chucking a contested 3!
I just can't see how people are not seeing any progress! We have a roster full of role players, followers, non D1 players, and JMo. Although I want them to win every time they take the court, this year I knew I had to come to reality and lower my expectations. I see us getting a NIT invite and potentially winning a game or a few games which is "better" than last year

Some will lose their minds while others have slid to a "I would rather have a 4 year player than a one and done" sentiment. 

I am in the we need him camp because...

We need IU to be the destination for top in-state talent.

Elite programs get elite players.

We need a guard and we need a shooter.

The program needs,  BIG TIME, an injection of hope and excitement.  Romeo will bring both.  

Write down prospective starting line-ups for next year....They all look a lot better with Romeo.

Well when you're willing to get down and dirty like Will Wade it's easier to recruit. Archie's recruiting has been good so far. Thompson/Hunter/Anderson/Phinisse/Forrester is a solid first class.

Bates-diop sophomore year he started 33 games and averaged 31 min a game and averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds. Not bad for sophomore

I’m not expecting much out of Duraham. Green will have to get rid of the bone head plays and be more consistent before I get on that train. Newkirk has no shot. 

Something that bothers me is that Davis was pretty good last year except for foul trouble. Some liked him in the game over Bryant. Rojo has 3 Solid years and then this year has been very average. Different coach with these guys and poor free throw shooting concerns me. 

On the Bright side there is Morgan going forward. Hoping for a Romeo to get the buzz back in Btown!

Neither Bates nor Davis played near their ranking. OSU fans thought Bates was making that jump this year as much as Tate and Williams. Williams averaged 10 last year. Bates average 10 last year. Tate averaged 14 last year. No person would have picked any IU player over that heading into this season. Morgan? He didn’t start playing like he has until after the Duke game. OSU had far better players by ranking. 5 top 80 players. 3 that had already been producing. IU had Robert Johnson that had produced last year. Like I know you are down on IU and trying to make a point but there are no stats that back this up. They had better players. They had better players that had already produced and weren’t living on hope. I don’t know what else to say. If Archie went to OSU and Holtmann was here we would still be having this conversation.

I like CAM’s 1st recruiting class and I’d gladly take 5 Star Romeo, 5 Star Brooks, 5 Star Watford, 5 Star TJD and 5 Star Hurt, although Hurt seems to be a long shot.

I was impressed with Holtman's run at Butler. I thought then that he would move up before long. Being in the Indianapolis area, I knew more about him than Miller. I like what I've seen and heard from CAM so far and I think he will be great at IU. Holtman is having a better first year with the players he inherited than Miller is. Nothing more than that. I don't see how that says anything about what is likely to happen down the road when each coach starts working with their own recruits. I expect that both will have success and hope that our guy is better in the long run, and I think he will be.

One of the complaints Dayton fans had about Archie was his recruiting. Look at what Will Wade has done at LSU so far.

Yeah, he just got a commitment from a 5* that was involved in rape allegations. That flys at LSU but I have a difficult time believing, at least I hope, that flies here.

I think some of us need to relax and realize this team just isn't good. We can't judge Archie folks. Archie didn't recruit a single one of these kids here. He was given the JV players when the Varsity players graduated (went pro). 

I know a lot of you want to compete every year because "IT'S INDIANA" , but the truth is this isn't the INDIANA that we want. Give Archie some times, two to four years before you start calling for his head. We're going to be better, but not good next year as well.
