Cathedral advances to the semis of the Bob Wettig Classic with a 73-55 win over Greensburg.  Franklin with 20 pts. on 9-15 FG; 0-3 on 3's; 2-4 FT; 5 reb; 1 asst; 3 stls; 1 TO.  They'll face the winner of Portage vs. Richmond at 1:00.

Why is officiating always an issue?  In the 1st Q, they called 14 fouls - 7 apiece, and put 2 players from each team on the bench with 2 fouls.  In the 2nd Q, they called 3 fouls, then back to 8 in the 3rd Q.  Franklin got a tech on a breakaway tomahawk slam that even the announcers had no clue as to why.  He didn't hang on the rim; didn't showboat but got T'd anyway.  He is a shot creator and handled the ball well on the dribble.

Wasn’t Newman supposed to be the better shooter of the two? Seems like Armaan is making 4 or more threes every game. I was just watching some videos from his high school season and his jumper looks great. Is this a new development?
Franklin also looks long and athletic. I think this kid is underrated.

I was thinking the same thing. Everything I read on him was that he was really well rounded, but needed to develop his jumper. He looks very confident either off the dribble or pass shooting with real range. We're not seeing the misses in the highlight videos obviously, so I don't know what his efficiency is, but the shot looks legit. I'm a lot more excited about him after seeing video than I was when he committed

End of 3 at the Bob Wettig Classic with Cathedral leading Richmond 62-36, and pretty certain Armaan's done for this game.  With about 1:30 left in the 2nd Q, he made a drive to the bucket, stepped on an opponent's foot and apparently twisted an ankle.  Normal play, nothing dirty at all from the Richmond player but Armaan stayed down for awhile and they cut to a commercial.  When it resumed, the announcers commented that Armaan's mother had been ejected and escorted from the gym.  Really don't know what could have set her off.   Armaan started the 3rd Q and left the game for good midway through the quarter with Cathedral leading by 25 pts.  I had him with 17 pts. (and so did the announcers) on 7-13 FG; 2-2 on 3's; 1-1 FT; 3 reb; 1 stl.

Cathedral will face Zionsville at 7:30 for the tournament championship.

This was re-tweeted by RadioTroy.com that is providing the game stream and play-by-play.  Again, I saw nothing on the play where Armaan went down that was in any way deliberate or dirty and neither did the announcers.

I’m a mother first and a fan second. The refs let the game and a player get out of control. My comment to the ref was simply “This is on you”. definitely not worthy of an ejection! So I sat in “time out” in the hospitality room, where the Richmond staff was awesome!!!!

I was sitting next to her at the CG game (sorry, USPS, better seats on the Cathedral side). She was cheering loudly and definitely into the game, but nothing untoward. Seriously, she's a lady, and she loves her kiddo. Refs get touchy sometimes. Reminds me of Pickerington North coming all the way from Columbus, and some ref on a power trip gave Jerome two techs for basically nothing. Just egos getting in the way.

Sorry if this offends anyone (I’m not) but some (not all, or most even) HS refs have the biggest egos on the planet for a job that’s pretty dang inconsequential. In Illinois especially. I had people get kicked out of my games back in the day for things that wouldn’t even draw attention in church. You’d think that whistle was the pen signing executive orders sometimes.

I cant stand the egos of some of these HS refs. Ive seen a couple fights almost break out because the refs couldnt control the game just this year. Also saw a ref give two technicals to the opposing bench for clapping AT HALFTIME!

@JPPrice: Armaan Franklin with the up and under scoop to tie the game with under 10 seconds left, and we are headed to overtime with Cathedral and Zionsville, 70-all. Very unofficially, Franklin has 22 points and the Eagles' Isaiah Thompson 19. #iubb

Zionsville misses on the first possession of OT, and Cathedral works two minutes off the clock before a reverse layup by Franklin for the lead.

In that tweet thread posted above with Armaan’s mother, some dweeb continued to say “you insulted an official”.

Once again apologies to the refs in here who are probably good people doing their job, but man you are not an official anything. You wear a zebra suit and mediate middle school and high school games. You’re not a judge upholding a legal system. Get off your damn power trip.

People are weird as hell man. Give some an ounce of power and they’ll take everything they can.

I admire any of our posters who officiate, and working local games at a few $ per game. So getting clocked by players, coaches, parents, and fans are probably not high on their lists. But big time officiating sucks from the college football and basketball games I have seen recently. College b-ball should go to 6 fouls and the replay rules at least keeps football in check. Before IU just got screwed by TV Teddy and Hightower because of Knight. Now, it seems they all are horrible. I would soon like to see Arc get T’d up to see how are team responds. If not, how are we ever gonna start getting respect?
