Honkyman Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 There is a reason why Brunk is leaving Butler--he not only wasn't starting any more but he wasn't getting the playing time he wanted. My guess is if Brunk comes to IU, he will come off the bench behind Deron Davis but still get lots of playing time since Davis rarely goes more than 20 minutes a game even when fully healthy. Then Brunk would start the next year after Davis graduates. raorIU, Hardwood83, 8bucks and 1 other 4 Quote

If he could figure out how to drop 20 pounds in the offseason too, that could make him even more dangerous. He's a huge piece to our success next year, and I really hope we don't see him end up in the transfer portal. JaybobHoosier and ALASKA HOOSIER 2 Quote

Right now I think he contributes off the bench as a freshman. Quote

This is the first offseason he's had that he has entered into it healthy which is HUGE for him. I know he said he's going home for a few weeks to get a bit of rest which I think is a good idea for him but I think when he gets back he's going to really be in the gym this offseason because he finally can be. I think we'll have plenty of minutes for Brunk but I fully expect De'Ron to be in the best shape of his life entering next season. I think he's going to have a huge year. I'm very bullish on both of our seniors, actually. thebigweave, jonz44, BGVille Hoosierfan and 1 other 4 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 I don't want anyone violating any paywalls but a word or two on IU's interest would be welcome. Jeff Rabjohns @JeffRabjohns Indianapolis Ben Davis 2019 shooting guard Jalen Windham has seen his recruitment soar, including Indiana interest. He updates where things stand, visits he'd like to take, his thoughts on IU and others. Quote

I'm just hoping that we have the shooters and slashers to punish the opposition. Deron always seems to maintain a positive attitude. Considering all the health issues he's had the last few years he seems due for some good fortune. Napleshoosier 1 Quote

Popular Post Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 16, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 16, 2019 Purely information - Jeff Borzello's rankings of the top college basketball transfer rankings for 2019-20 and 2020-21. In the immediately eligible category he ranks Joey Brunk 14th and Daniel Utomi 22nd out of 50 names. Other names in this category with State of Indiana connections include Camron Justice (IUPUI) 16th and Derrick Smits 25th. He has a separate list of 50 names who will have to sit one. Interestingly, neither Jake nor Clifton make this top 50 list. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26530279/college-basketball-transfer-rankings-2019-20-2020-21 8bucks, Ohreally, taco corp and 13 others 16 Quote

He's going home to remind himself what he's doing all this for and to work with his friend Chauncey Billups (and others he noted as "valuable resources" he has out west to better his game). He said when most guys are returning to Bloomington he plans to stay in Colorado and workout there awhile longer before returning to work out with the team. Maybe things have changed, and if so, my apologies. That is what he said his plan was after the loss in NIT. He seems determined to have a full and healthy season with some added improvements to his game. I hope his health allows him this. As Mike Roberts mentioned earlier, Deron is one of (if not the) best back-to-the-basket big men in the Big 10. We've never seen him fully healthy, yet many of us still recognize his ability around the rim and the struggles healthy players had containing him. If he's healthy and remains out of foul trouble, then he can get longer stretches of playing time (he's never been able to play long stretches) which should improve his overall game and allow him to have a much more dramatic impact on the team. I've been high on DD all along, but he's been extremely limited due primarily to health. I hope he has a "breakout" season, and I certainly believe it's possible...as long as he can finally have a full season of health. Hoosiers96, Hoosier Roots, ALASKA HOOSIER and 9 others 12 Quote
