Wildcats Select wing Donovan Johnson had a productive weekend during Session I of the Adidas Gauntlet.  Donovan displayed a tantalizing mix of size/length/fluidity/shotmaking in Indianapolis. A three-level scorer without dominating the ball, Johnson shot well from beyond the arch, while taking advantage of mismatches in the post by simply raising up from midrange or bullying smaller defenders in the post for easy buckets. On one notable play during a Sunday morning matchup with Kevon Looney Elite, the Pittsburgh area native only needed 1 dribble to get from half-court all the way to the rim before converting a routine layup. That type of stride is something that simply cannot be taught. The production is already there, as 13.3 points and 4 rebounds per game on nearly 48% from the floor through Session I of the Gauntlet Series is impressive in its own right. However, the best part about Johnson is undoubtedly upside, as he’s not even close to scratching the surface of his ceiling. With prototype NBA size for a wing player and the ability to score from nearly any spot on the court, Donovan has the look of one of the very best prospects in the country with continued skill development and additional muscle mass.

 

NOTE:  At Indpls. he played 4 games and avgd. 13.8ppg on 48% FG; 33% on 3's; 67% FT; 4 reb; 2 asst ;1 TO.

If I'm Archie I'm not wasting time on the 19 guys any longer. I don't believe LQ or TW are realistic options at this point. I'm banking those scholarships getting Leal and Galloway, then adding a couple of higher recruits if possible.

What about other grad transfers? They wouldn't impact '20 scholarship availability and we have certainly have room and needs to fill. Are we set with Brunk or do you see the staff pursuing others in the grad transfer market?

It's just me but if there was someone out there the staff liked I think we would have heard about it by now.

The grad transfer pickin's are pretty slim and other than a warm body, I'm not sure there's much left to choose from that would actually be of benefit to us.

Definitely fascinating. National scout yesterday said if he was IU he would not offer Ivey and has been on record saying if he was IU he would of offered Leal by now

With Leal and Galloway officially getting offers and both having decently high odds of accepting.

It’s been my belief for a while, based on our 2020 targets, that 2020 will be statistically underwhelming on paper.

Is this the formula that works for Indiana? Getting moderately rated kids that will work hard and maybe be willing to wait their turn. Produce as upperclassmen.

Also. Assuming we get Leal and Galloway. Phin and Franklin remain. Limited space for 2021 with Luke Brown (if he blossoms-I think he will) and Lander.
