I agree. I mean, I care about more than just turnovers but length/height is about the last thing I care about for my PG. I'm actually surprised to see that be such a big factor for people. Yogi was IU's best on ball defender could guard at 5'11, he was quick and moved his feet.

Position-less basketball is a thing 2-4, you can maybe stretch the 5. PG is still a position and a position that requires a skill set and acumen MOST CG's simply lack.

I need to see full games on any CG, as a rule, to decide if I'm comfortable for him being a PG. Hopefully, Archie is taking a long look if that's his plan.

I agree - CG seems to be a title they give when someone isn't really good enough to be a point, but doesn't shoot well enough to be the 2. If you have point guard skills and can still shoot, you're just a really good PG.

These guys are looking at the next level. 6'2-6'5 could dominate as a 2/3 at the HS level. Where does it project at the collegiate level? 1/2. Where does it project at the pro level? 1. So they better be playing PG at the collegiate level to show that skill set.

It's a conversion vs. a natural position. Some guys make it work and are successful. Maybe that's Devoe, maybe thats Hinton. Maybe.

I'm not saying size is overly important in a PG but it's certainly an advantage. I look at Syracuse and that 2-3 zone, when your guards are 6' being trapped becomes a nightmare because you can't see and you can't throw it over anyone as opposed to when you have a 6'4 and above point that trap becomes a lot less effective becomes their vision isn't taken away. Now with that said you take the best player but if I have 2 points with similar skill sets I take the 6'4 one over the 6' every time.

I agree as well. If the kid can process what he sees and orchestrate the team to take advantage of matchups, than I don't care much about size.

That being said, 1 of my all-time favorite teams to watch play, and I am ashamed to admit this, was the 89-90 Illinois teams that had Bardo at the point and had Anderson, Gill, Battle, Liberty and Hamilton. All between 6'5" and 6'8". Switched every screen. Had exploitable matchups on every possession. The original positionless team. Would have won a NC if Henson could have coached even a little bit.

Btw: my all-time favorite RMK quote. After playing Kendall Gill for the last time, "Boy am I glad he's gone. That Son of a ***** can really play." Love that

One of the things not mentioned regarding height that is a big factor imo.

Yogi was a good on-ball defender. BUT....

Other guards love being guarded by shorter people because they can shoot/see/pass over the top at will. Height really limits your defensive upside and allows the opposing offense to run more fluidly in every way.

We dealt with this with Hulls and Yogi for 6-7 straight years.

People say Yogi was a good defender, and he was his senior year, but he was mediocre before that. Especially his Freshman-Sophomore seasons.

True. But he was better than Hulls which was our measuring stick at PG. We don't know what a superb PG defender really even looks like. Yogi was quick but never really could jump lanes for steals or pick off the dribble.

His senior year was so good that it makes me forget most of his first three years.

6'6" 250 lbs. from Abington, PA.

Now this is a kid who has really had a solid AAU season game after game.  Averaged a double-double; 53% shooting from the floor and rarely shoots a 3.  I don't make a habit of trying to separate offensive rebounds from defensive rebounds and just give you a total.  But this kid's numbers were so consistently good, I made an exception.  He snared a total of 174 rebounds; 72 (41%) were offensive and 102 (59%) defensive.  That's impressive.

Yogi was one of the best per-possession defenders in the conference his freshman year, check the chart here: http://www.umhoops.com/2013/03/09/game-31-indiana-at-michigan-preview/

I tend to think his defense lagged his middle two years, when he carried an efficient and large offensive load without tons of help on either end, though there were highlights those years, too, especially his lockdown of Stauskas.

Tidbidts from NY2LA Sports Summer Jam

Flynn Cameron – 2018 – PG – AUSA Hoops Platinum NY2LA
The strong-bodied, 6’4 Aussie has continued to catch the eye of mid and high major programs alike with his play. Cameron has just about every tool a coach looks for in a floor general, and takes advantage of his size advantage against most of his defenders. He displayed the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter in a big win against Playground Elite EYBL, but was impressive getting to where he wanted to go in the lane to either finish at the hoop or set up a teammate for an easy bucket.

Aaron Henry – 2018 – SG – Team Harris
Henry’s scoring ability was on full display at times in a loss to REACH Legends. The 6-foot-6 senior can go coast-to-coast and has an array of tools in the open floor. Henry played particularly well in transition, opening up the bag of tricks to get to the rim and shake defenders in the open floor. Henry was tough to affect around the rim with his length and displayed a soft touch despite being under duress. He was his team’s main offensive catalyst in what was a tough offensive night for Team Harris.
