Welcome Coach Miller

Recommended Posts

Not every model starts with top of pay scale. Mitigating risk plays a part and if the risk pays off, you have room to move Archie into the next tier of pay grades and if it's a home run, he gets the elite pay. Even if it was Donavan, the risk was always- does he leave for the next shiny opportunity. Risk can come in many shapes and sizes and resources don't always correlate to $$$

Yeah, Archie puts in three solid years and he'll receive a fat extension and a real nice raise. We have room to give him that raise now.

Judging by Coach Millers Twitter he is reaching out to former players. Notably the 2011-12 team. Good to see. Would love to stay in the Watford families good graces.

I haven't seen any tweets by him since when he first got the job.

I would love to know whether or not the players see much of a difference between Crean and Arch yet. Crean was really good at things like this and small sided drills seemed to be his thing.

But still I wonder if having a guy who played pushing them now is already something they are benefitting from

I was listening to a podcast (maybe Peegs) and Peegs made the statement that JBJ was 50/50 on leaving right now because the Blackmon's have been very impressed with CAM and feel that JBJ has already shown a lot of improvement from him.

In one of Jordan Hulls' blog postings he mentioned that in 4 years he never saw FCTC shoot a jump shot.  Wonder how many the current squad have already seen from CAM!  Bet it's more than none.

Wouldn't surprise me if it happens at nearly every practice.

I imagine CAM challenges the boys to 3 point contests, he seems to be able to connect with the guys.

That's the key in my opinion. He seems to be able to connect with them on a personal level but also has the respect that when he speaks everyone listens. Having a coach that's capable of both is very nice.

A tweet from Coach Miller yesterday.

I want to thank AJ Moye for stopping into Cook Hall today! Great to meet you and appreciate the time! #Hoosier

Miss AJ....We could sure use a warrior like AJ Moye on the roster—-loved his toughness...

McBob is pretty damn tough. Not quite as good as AJ, but pretty damn tough.

Hopefully this season gave him some more confidence, which will continue into the off season. Combine his natural ability to defend with a no-fear level of confidence and you've got a guy who sets the tone night in and night out.

Look at his coaching record at Dayton. That about says it all. Crean showed more potential at the time of his hiring than Miller.

My stance is disappointment because of expectations. Archie COULD be very good for us. If he can recruit anything like his brother I'll be ecstatic about our chances.

Like rebel said, I was just hoping our resources and status could get us our top target (I bet glass was too).

Glass said Archie was on his short list from the beginning, meaning he was not our top choice, clearly.

I'm excited to see IU under different direction than Crean but I just hoped we would making a statement hire with much less uncertainty.

His first recruiting cycle and season will be telling.

1. Stevens
2. Donovan
3. Sean Miller
4. Few
5. Bennett
5. Alford
6. Marshall
7. Probably Archie 7. But I don't think he is necessarily, without a doubt, currently better than Collins, White, Huggins, Martin, and a host of others.

His age and family ties give hope. His results are pretty good. He's on the list. Of the "realistic"-whatever that means- list he is 2-4 for me. I like his youth a lot.

Bump.  These are my first few posts after the hire.   I'm done with Archie. I didn't love the hire to begin with.  But then he won the press conference and signed Romeo.  I thought he assembled a great coaching staff.  He was winning me over with his no nonsense approach.  AND then we played the games.  Its been an abomination on the court relative to the expectations Indiana fans should be allowed to have.

Honestly I am upset because i wish he was a better coach.  I like his age. His demeanor for the most part.  His love of the game.  I like all the extracurriculars but he just isn't elite in any facet of the game.  Coaching, recruiting, anything.

PS-I thought some might enjoy revisiting this enthusiasm and glum.  Also, I'll admit knowing what i know now i'm embarrassed Marshall is on my list but hey, can't fault a guy. He is a good coach and better the Archie.  Alford?  Whatever.  I know people hate him and i don't want him either but he could have the same success Archie is having.  Moving on.  Disappointed in myself for not having Holtman on my list, but i'll admit i thought Archie was better than Holtman and mostly from a recruiting ceiling standpoint going off of Sean's recruiting success.

First calls: Brad Stevens and Billy Donovan

Offer them 9/10 million a year plus stupid bonuses.

Second Calls: Holtmann, White, Miller, Bennett, Collins

Third Calls : Tom Crean or Dane Fife.

Let it be on the record in 2021, that I had Holtman before Archie.
