I doubt any feedback they get from this will be much different than they received from their prior coach. If not, their prior coach was doing a really poor job.

This whole "test the waters" thing needs to go away. It's not good for college bball.

It's not good for college BBall? The game has changed, the rule isn't made for fans, it's made for players. You can't argue that prior coaches tell them what to work on, because college basketball and the NBA are different beasts completely. The rule was made so kids can continue to make a living instead of risking it all and ultimately failing. The NBA scouts don't only tell them what to work on, they also tell the players whether they'd benefit in going to school for another year or not.

As for Bryant, I think he would benefit financially if he came back, because even if he did not improve next year, he'd still likely be drafted higher than this year because the big man depth in next years draft is shaping up to be a lot weaker than this years. This year is stacked with big guys. Blackmon should go however, his defensive inability did not come from a lack of effort, it came from a lack of skill on that end, he lack lateral quickness, but he is however an offensive power and NBA teams will pay for that, even if he isn't drafted, he'll have an opportunity to impress in summer camps and workouts.

Ok since you didn't get the insinuation I'll say it bluntly.

If helping kids make informed choices is bad for the college game. The screw the college game.

College is about preparing for life after college why should that be different because they are athletes.

If you want to argue that basketball should adopt a system similar to baseball where they either go pro or stay 3 years that's one thing. And it would ensure roster stability.

But preventing people from making informed decisions is never good for the long term health of an organization.

It's good for the student athletes that believe it or not will have a life after their time in college. They are essentially trying to better their chances at success in the future. So are you against someone trying to better themselves? That seems hateful if so

Let's look at that preparation for life thingy then. Unless you're a 1st rounder, being drafted has little guarantee.

Here's the informed decision data they need...
Of second rounders 26% never make a team. Of the ones that do, 48% last less than three years. So only 26% last more than three.

How many scouts will tell them this.

And yes, change the process. Something needs done about early entry.

Well glad you brought this up. The process was changed to avoid these stats you brought up. So you are kind of arguing against yourself. On your other argument of getting rid of the early entry. Kids don't play college ball to play 4 years. They play for a chance to enter their career of choice. Remember, college basketball is amateurism....

Since we're discussing this in this thread, here is Chad Ford's draft predictions: http://insider.espn.com/nba/insider/story/_/id/18875530/2017-nba-draft-out

In summary:

OG: 15-25

TB: 25-50

JBJR: Possible 2nd Rounder but most likely undrafted

RoJo: Not discussed

I'm enjoying y'alls back and forth. I see pros and cons on both sides. Related to this post but unrelated to your convo. I don't see the potential for OG that others do. I think he and TB benefited greatly their freshman year from the ability of Yogi to break down and draw defenders. I know that guards do this in the NBA but the athleticism is greater overall and I'm not sure about their abilities at that level

OG - 10-25

TB - 35-60

James - 45-60

RoJo - Undrafted

Maybe they take a chance at it. Hell, Yogi is the starting PG for the Mavs and Troy is signed to a multi year deal with the Rockets.

I believe James, Thomas, and RoJo will all be back though.

I agree with you but that is more of a reason OG should go, his draft stock is more likely to be hurt by him returning. It could improve, but the percentage of chance says he has a better shot at losing draft spots by returning if what this is true about OG

Wow....The process will NOT change results of a majority of 2nd round picks not being able to make the NBA. The process change was to allow return to school, nothing more.

So now that that we know their choice of career is not the NBA. Tell me why kids play basketball for four yrs.

So what exactly is your argument??

The process will give more time for more thorough feedback to show where you will go. It's not that hard.

I do not believe James will be back. He knows he is not a first rounder but he is ready to start his professional career like Troy was.

Pretty confident of this too.

Yes the longer James stays the more it hurts his professional career. TB is at that point also. If he stays and doesn't get better his stock will really fall. James was known as a great shooter who couldn't play defense or do much else after his freshman year. After his junior year he is known as a good shooter who can't do much else.
