I find it extremely hard to imagine that team makes to a Sweet 16 or FF or even make the tournament every year under Crean. IMO to respond to your NBA level talent, those guys under Crean don't get the exposure nor develop in to better players and don't get make it the NBA at all. So I think Marshall is clearly an upgrade from Crean. Is he my first choice no, would I be upset if he came, no. Though I think I remember him getting offers a few years ago from some bigger programs and he turned them down stating he liked being at WSU and didn't want to leave, which sometimes money doesn't matter when you're truly happy where you are (it's not like these guys are making minimum wage as is).
