Don't remember which games were at the end of regulation (except the home loss to PSU where they pressed and we crapped our pants in the last two minutes), but I remember having halftime leads at Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan and proceeding to get dominated in the second half.

Yeah, PSU was definitely one of them. Were the games against Minny, Wisky, and Michigan that same season? That is probably what I am thinking about. I remember never feeling safe no matter how large the lead was because I just knew we couldn't hold onto a lead. So frustrating...

Okay all, when was it that you realized for certain that Crean was not the man for the job?  I knew the first time I saw Verdell Jones fall down.

For absolute certain?  Probably when he managed to miss the NIT with 2 burger boys because absolutely positively cannot adjust his "offense" to save his life.  I was willing to give him another year, then I was completely off the train.

First glowing red sign?  The Syracuse debacle and his indescribably incompetent preparation for that zone.  An untrained circus monkey on a bad acid trip couldn't have done much worse.

Same here. The first two years I gave him a pass for the most part. When we regressed in year 3 I started to wonder. Then things went great for 2 seasons. The year of Vonleh is when I started having my first major concerns because we should have been much better. Last season I was all but done with him after the Duke game, then of course they completely reversed course, so I let it go. This year was definitely make or break year in my eyes (not that I would have been surprised to see him go earlier). If this team didn't accomplish a great season followed up by a deep tourney run, I was definitely on the train.

Dear Yogi,

Thank you for keeping my job alive for a year.

Love,

Tom Crean

just happened along this while I was doing some searches. decent read

Shows what I have thought. Bennett is a least likely target as Billy. This search will be fun. Hopefully I can watch a few of these teams when it counts to see more. I like a lot of these candidates.

As we know all too well, what the fans want isn't necessarily what the AD wants. Even if it's painfully obvious

Mizzou is likely to go after Crean if he was really interested though. Kim Anderson was not a good hire but was their best choice out of guys who wanted job. Marshall said no instantly. Crean would be a great hire for them I think their AD is taken a proven guy this time anyway. Another miss makes him not the AD anymore lol.

Syracuse debacle. Wanted him gone ever since. If he couldn't win with that team, he wasn't gonna win with any team. Been a long four years on the tank train but the ride is about over

A little Friday morning fiction - or is it?

Well, I’ll start off by saying this: do not blame that game on me, OK? I don’t care who you play — whether it’s a high school team, an intra-mural team, a junior college team — much less a college team. When you turn the ball over (insert #) times you ain’t going to beat anybody I just talked about. Anybody. All right? And that was a disgraceful performance in my opinion. We threw that game. We gave it away by doing that. We gave them the friggin’ game. In my opinion, that sucked. Ah. You know? You can’t turn the ball over (insert #) times like that. Holy crap! I don’t know who the hell we think we are when we do something like that. Unbelievable.  (Insert #) turnovers.  That’s pitiful! I mean, it’s absolutely pitiful to perform like that. Pitiful!

At the end of the press conference Tom Crean responded to a question from a reporter asking about the Hoosiers  chances for making it to the Big Dance. Coach Crean replied in a high pitched sounding voice with:

What’s that? Ah — NCAA Tournament? Don’t talk about — NCAA Tournament?  You kidding me? NCAA Tournament? I just hope we can win a game in the BTT!  Another game.

I have to be honest.  I would prefer Bennett over Donovan.  Donovan is exciting because of his track record and the weight that his name would bring to IU, but I have followed Bennett and his father for a long time and I am not sure that there is anyone better at coaching fundamentals of the game.

I'll be happy with Donovan, but I'm not so sure he is my top choice. I really like Archie. I think he is a great young coach who would build us back up to where we should be. My next choice is probably a toss up between Bennett and Donovan. I like Marshall, but I just think he is too old to bring in. I really don't want to hire another coach in ten years (unless Stevens would be ready to come back).

I get the thought process of getting a young guy.

But you absolutely can not take a flyer on a guy who has potential when you have a 2 x national champion up for consideration.

Has a coach with multiple titles ever chosen of his own volition to even go to a new school? I don't think so it's unheard of
