Would’ve loved to see us give ND belt, but every top program should refuse to schedule ND until they stop receiving preferential treatment or join a conference.

This.  I’m ok with USC doing it. But no other Big Ten should be allowed to schedule them

Still kinda unclear who initiated the cancellation.  Seems mutual at the least… ND gets their rival back on the schedule.  Why would we cancel this so far in advance?  But I can’t tell.

If we were the ones who broke the agreement, it looks bad on us.  We have practically nothing but MAC and FCS cupcakes on the docket for the next 4 years (including two MAC opponents in 2028).  I know that we are used to Indiana scheduling with the mindset of trying to get to six wins, but once you win a national title, people expect you to immediately stop doing that and play some teams that look like they aren't on the brink of disaster in the FBS level because let's face it; will the MAC even be around in 10 years?

But if Notre Dame broke the agreement for the sake of renewing the USC rivalry, then I get it.  It does suck that Notre Dame hardly ever plays us, but that was thanks to Indiana never taking football seriously and Notre Dame opting instead for traditions, which was why the chose Purdue due to proximity and the fact that Purdue at least had moments of glory (much as I hate saying it)

Still... Cignetti can't knock the SEC model and then the SEC turns around and requires those schools to play an actual opponent (even if those schools are just going to schedule Maryland, Rutgers, and Oklahoma State).  We have to start playing P4 schools ourselves.

Dust is starting to settle. Looks like SC wouldn't budge thus more than likely a discussion occurs between SC's AD Jennifer Cohen and Dolson. Or maybe ND telling IU to "play later dates or cancel".

I really really wanted ND on the schedule but it opens the door for a possible Barrel game renewal.

Man that would be glorious.

UofL v UK is pretty set in concrete so who knows. Maybe it'll happen due to some sort of agreement between the Big Ten and SEC where they do something like a ACC-Big Ten Challenge in basketball. Personally I foresee something like happening. Where the result being no Big Ten or SEC schools scheduling ND and they'll be left out.

I hope we fix the non-con. See if Cincinnati is interested to run it back?

I don’t see anything that needs fixing.  Honestly would love something with the SEC and Big 10 where teams had to play an opponent from there.  Would love to bring back UK as a rival in football.  We play in Soccer and Basketball.  And I think we still play them in Baseball

LMAO, we're #6 in the preseason coaches poll (yet have the 2nd highest 1st place votes behind OSU). The disrespect is amazing. Reigning National Champs that haven't lost since 2024 and these coaches still can't rank us in the top 5.

I will say this, it’s bad optics to be the only P4 program in the country to not have another P4 team scheduled at some point.

The reigning college football national champion does not concern itself with optics. The schedule will take care of itself in the next 2-3 years according to Cig himself.

Doing the math, I'm guessing there was some (gosh I wonder who) coaches that were required to put half the SEC in the top 8.

Last year we played 13. More than most other teams. Winning the games we do play is all that matters.

I don’t care about optics. We’re the king of the mountain and stacked again this year.
An upper-echelon P4 opponent would be fun for the fans. I don’t mind announcing something later with a team that looks to be strong.

Hosting Wake Forest or Kansas satisfies the stupid P4 thing but does nothing for us. Hell, ODU received votes last year in the final AP poll.

Screw ND anyway, the top 12 CFP concession they have is ridiculous.
