  1. Just for a point of reference, a 95.0 ratings is where transfer portal players rated 35 through 50 were last year on 247 rankings.

  2. 4 guys who made All Big Ten this season were small school transfers. Lendeborg (POY), Stirtz, Boyd, Wilkerson. On top of that, plenty more were important contributors on tourney teams. Too many to list. Evaluate each player on their own merits, not just where they come from

  3. If rumors are true, it sounds like Ryan Carr hit the ground running. Was told he was doing some nice work already. Person didn't name names but said Carr had several high-major players interested in IU, with a couple ready to sign. Time will tell if that is true or not.

  4. I do not buy this at all. That maybe the story that he is telling. But in no way shape or form did Brownell turn down the job. I doubt he was even offered the job.

  5. I played D2 and it can be easier at that level, depending on how the school supports it program. I know nothing about the school McCollum was at, but I can tell in the conference I played in the scholarship money was extremely uneven. Some schools had a roster of full scholarship guys and other schools might have 2-3 full ride guys and then have to disperse the rest amongst the roster. It's a huge advantage. The top teams in each conference would almost always have 2-3 D1 transfers. My senior year the best team in our conference had 3 D1 transfers, one of which was a 6'9 250lb center who was Newcomer of the Year in his D1 conference the year before. Got into some trouble and had to transfer down. If you have a financially supported D2 program, it can be like having the most NIL money at the D1 level. You can stack your roster and almost walk into the D2 Tournament each year. Again, I don't know how McCollum's program was supported. I'd guess pretty well. I'm also not suggesting his D2 National Titles were easy and not impressive.

  7. While I agree with your sentiment. I would like to see some guys from power conference programs too. More importantly to me does the athletic profile translate?

  8. It never ends lol. Dude who hit the game winning shot for Iowa to beat the defending national champions was a transfer from…..Robert Morris.

  10. Sounds like we may have got our final assistant coach. edit: erased the name bc I realized it was premium board content and not free board content. I’m sure it will be out soon enough.

  11. I would assume he would have to play the 4. 6'8", 230. Can shoot from three (36 of 63 this year....57%, wow....and 54 for 113 over two seasons).

  12. I'm not really encouraged or discouraged by anything DDV or staff say at this point. I just want them to show me not tell me. Year 2 has to be much better.

  13. The whole "we shouldn't go after anymore mid major players" argument is lazy and nonsense. There are countless examples of mid major players succeeding at P5 schools. It's as simple as the coaching staff (and now Ryan Carr) hitting on their evaluations. Each player is a different case and shouldn't be grouped in based on their conference. I don't know enough about this Robert Morris player to make an argument one way or another but I feel like we're capable of digging a little deeper before we write players off.

  14. I think we want to do better than a Robert Morris transfer. Currently, I dont know that we can do better than a Robert Morris transfer. But a Robert Morris transfer might not be as underwhelming as it sounds. Mid major transfers is the new talent trail - overlooked talent who could've gone high major out of high school or guys who've shown they have what it takes to get there. You just have to recognize the right ones, and that's where coaches earn the first part of their paychecks.

  15. You can have 5. We only had 4 last season

  16. Of course. We also need potentially 6-8 players.

  17. What about a Sam Houston State transfer? Haha

  18. Bidunga, Booker, Haralson, & more available. He doesn’t need to leave the state to be Top 25 if he locked down the borders. “The best from Indiana play at Indiana”

  19. This is literally writing him off lol. Not many mental gymnastics required to believe a second year D1 coach headed to the S16 with a core he built at lower levels will continue succeeding over his career. Much easier to see Iowa basketball succeeding than Indiana basketball succeeding right now. You can actually still watch them play this season and compete for a title haha. I'd love Bo Ryan or Tony Bennett's brand of basketball in Bloomington. Anywho I'm content to table it for now and we can wait to find out who has a better career when it's all said and done.

  24. I am bullish on Calhoun. Very high level coach, obviously anything can happen but looks like a home run hire for the Bearcats.

  27. although most probably know this but for those who don't ON3 keeps a running tab on all transfer portal entrees....the list is mind boggling.....you can break it down by position too.....keep an eye on the Centers..... https://www.on3.com/transfer-portal/wire/basketball/?position=c

  28. Why would he want to come to IU and have to deal with a fan base that wants to make the tournament? Those expectations are insane, it's only a 68 team field.

  30. They didn’t really play all that slow last night. And while they were slow this year they weren’t much different than a team like Houston. A far cry from his season at Drake. Also, I don’t think national champion threat is the standard at Iowa. This is the first time they’ve seen the second weekend since the 90’s. They have like 2 Final Fours ever and haven’t won Conference since Carter was in office. They are a very mediocre to below average program historically.

  31. Totally fair! I just didn't see much from DeVries this year to make me more optimistic about what he can do at Indiana vs what McCollum can do at Iowa. We were even worse in conference and down the stretch. We have a financial advantage. I don't see much from a basketball POV that leads me to believe DDV is a better coach than McCollum or will become one. Not to get hung up on those two... just bummed seeing how big the gap looks right now.

  32. How anybody can feel optimistic about our program after watching McCollum this year is beyond me. Writing them off once Stirtz leaves is a huge miscalculation IMO. He already found and developed that type of player in D2, odds seem pretty good that Stirtz won't be the last player he develops into a stud. McCollum is playing chess out there and we are tossing the ball around the top of the arc waiting for someone to chuck a late shot clock 3 lol. There's for sure improvements needed beyond roster construction. That's got to be painfully clear given how we finished. Talent needs to be upgraded too... and then the coaching has to be better. I'll feel better if / when we land a compelling group in the portal.
