Now that the initial shock of the trade is beginning to wear off, I think some things are clear. I love Jaylen Brown, my kids grew up on "The Jays", but the reality is the Celtics were not going to give him the Super Max extension that he is eligible for this summer. They were already struggling with paying him #1 money when he's a #2 on a title team, and the window was closing or even closed on the Tatum/Brown Celtics given new ownership and all of these different "apron" rules. The Celtics weren't going to commit to paying him $70M annually as he approaches the other side of 30 and would have had to commit to paying him that at 33-35 years old. I love Brown, but Tatum is the better player by quite a bit and teams no longer want to pay two guys the Super Max. The package Stevens got in return sucks. But it also shows nobody else was really willing to commit those dollars to Brown either. Teams want to reserve the Super Max for top 5 guys, not guys in the 10-25/30 range.6 points

If the young lady is taking an OV, have to assume she has a formal IU offer. Colsten Thompson has been doing some work in Canada. She attends Ft. Erie International and plays AAU for B1CE on the UAA circuit. Ft. Erie played on the Grind Session and in her Grind Session stats below, her game against DME was against GiGi Battle's team. I'll say this. Losing Brown sucks in the fact that the return wasn't what you'd hope for and that he was a homegrown star who had played 10 years for the C's and of course has the Finals MVP. With that said, I think the Celtics as of now are better next season than they were last season. If healthy, this isn't going to be some major drop-off. They may not win 56 games because the East will be a lot better (Sixers, Pacers, Raptors, Heat will all be better), but this is a playoff team still. The roster as of now is better than the roster last season. Tatum replacing Brown is an upgrade, and so far we've replaced Vucivic with PG, Mitchell Robinson and Mike Conley. The Celtics aren't a champion contender but it's a better roster than what we had entering last season.1 point -

The USA U17 World Cup men moved into the semifinals with a 149-82 pounding over Puerto Rico. Their 149 point offensive barrage broke the FIBA U17 scoring record! July is a huge month for AAU basketball as all 3 major circuits wrap up their seasons and coaching staffs are permitted to attend July 9-12 and July 16-19. EYBL: July 8-11 in Vegas and Peach Jam July 14-19. 3SSB: July 10-12 in Bryan, TX and July 16-19 in Rock Hill, SC. UAA: July 9-12 in Atlanta and July 16-19 in Louisville We'll get a real sense of who the staff is prioritizing among our existing offers plus there's always new offers that are extended. If you're really into following high school recruiting, it's like Christmas in July. :-D1 point -

Yep I'm glad to see them sweat a bit. Pretty clear the athletic department has taken MBB season ticket holders for granted. Raising prices on a consistently mediocre product, while moving all decent non-con games off campus so they can charge extra for those. If demand drops, maybe we'll see a change in philosophy for future seasons.1 point -

Top 5 Hoosier NBA Careers

I feel bad for him. He is probably the most improved player I’ve ever seen come through IU. He was always athletic but his HS film was rough. Then his NBA career started off slow only to see him work his way into an All NBA player on a playoff team in his “adopted “ home state. Then it was all ripped away with a brutal freak injury. He’s an incredibly hard worker. His improvement track was truly impressive, imo.1 point -

It especially sucks because of how dynamic Flo has been and the level of dropoff between Flo and Ricardo Pepi, his replacement. Pepi kinda sucks, especially in the box (and as a striker that's not what you want to see). Caveat: Pepi was very good (mainly in midfield and defensive territory) in his 10 minutes replacing Pulisic last night. This isn't like replacing Dest or Robinson with Bernhalter or Reyna; that would be a negligible dropoff with some new skills that the replacment would bring. This is an undeniable dropoff in our ability to creat scoring opportunites. We're going to have to grind out a 1-0 or 2-1 game without Flo.1 point

IU Baseball
BtownStrength reacted to Pagoda for a topic
Football is helping definitely helping our AD revenue... though it's still only been one year of increased revenue we can benefit from. I think IU like many other schools is dealing with soaring player costs in FB and MBB. 2024 the roster cost for those two sports was a little over $10M. For 2026 it's $50M+. For right or wrong, I agree it appears baseball isn't a priority. Maybe IU should find a way to do more with baseball. But then again, there are trade-offs, do you want a sweet portal player in FB or a new baseball coach? I'd take the player.1 point -
IU has lost their minds on exhibition game pricing. For those prices you can go to regular season game(s) at Assembly against as good or even better opponents. Or you could go to a football game. For an exhibition game decent (not amazing) seat… $40 max imo. Cmon IU… price these games lower to get people in the door. Get more fans engaged with IUBB again.1 point

My hottest of takes is until students actually show up and make Assembly Hall a tough place to play, I'm okay with playing a game or two in Indy where alums who rarely get accessible tickets in Assembly Hall can see us play. Of course tickets have been a little cheaper on the secondary market lately, but students aren't even filling the lower level, let alone having a COMPLETELY empty balcony.... I don't expect anyone here to agree with this - I'm just a young alum in Indy who is frustrated by lack of turnout when it's hard for someone like me to get in the building1 point -

I keep seeing this story on social media and find it hilarious if true Jake McDonald, the assistant director of football operations is responsible for bringing Cig his lunch order every day. McDonald orders through his Chipotle app for Cig so he gets the reward points and has accumulated over 64,000 points. People did the math and that basically means he's had the same lunch order more than 500 times since he's been to Bloomington. Practically every day. Lol. The order? Rice, beans, chicken and side of guacamole. A model of consistency.1 point
