For reference: Baylor has made the tourney 10/11 seasons (Covid yr excepted) They’re last 5 seeds have been: 9, 3, 3, 1, 1 They’ve won 20+ games 13/14 years Odds are we just went toe to toe with a solid team that will likely make the tourney. It’s our best benchmark so far.

Rick Bozich - For all the talk about firing coaches and paying buyouts, AD Scott Woodward hired Jimbo Fisher at A&M and Brian Kelly at LSU and was nationally acclaimed because “he always gets his man.” Who has handed out two worse contracts than that?

I feel like I'm watching the '74-'76 IU basketball team, except it's football. This two year run is special in every way. Never in my 77 years did I ever expect to see anything like this. I flat out love this football team.

To defend Scott a bit, he wanted to do something after year three of Woody but his hands were tied by Woody’s pals. Once Scott had the political capital from a year of Cig he sh1tcanned Woody midseason right in Quinn’s face. I was impressed. If IUBB is decent the fan support will be good imo.

Need to get hands on that LSU buyout language because a December coaching carousel with Penn State, Florida, and one or both of LSU and Texas would be carnage. And I love carnage.

I'm glad to read this, I thought we made some really poor decisions offensively from about the 3:00 mark to about the 1:00 mark at the end of the game. Glad to see that wasn't a Devries thing

It's an exhibition game. Nobody is fouling out today.

They’re calling it very tight like they do at the beginning of every season.

Ok, we're 5 games in to the DeVries tenure at IU. They've had 3 games in Puerto Rico and two exhibition games against Marian and Baylor. Entirely new coaching staff, and a completely new team (save maybe a walk-on or two). The indomitable "hump" is gone, and it would appear that these guys have already gotten to know one another - something the previous coaching staff was unable to accomplish for FOUR long, dreadful years. The Hoosiers still have some issues to fix, of course, it's early, and there are injuries, but I am feeling pretty good about our chances. Basketball is looking up, Football is 8-0 and #2 in the nation. It's a good time to be a Hoosier.

Didn't watch the game, only followed along in this thread. As we've seen in football, coaching matters. This season is a reset. I want to see consistent effort, smart basketball plays, and playing like being on this team is a privilege. Crean's early teams had no talent but they played their ***** off. I watched every game and rooted like hell for those guys. This, to me, is a foundational year with better things to come.

Yep. Iowa and Washington should be top 25. Mid tier BT teams just don't seem to attract the attention that SEC teams do. As an example Tennessee beat a crappy UK team and rose 3 spots to 14th…LOL. Their 6 wins are Syracuse, East TN State, UAB, a poor MS State in overtime, a poor Arkansas by 3 and UK. #19 Missouri has beaten Central Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, South Carolina, Umass and Auburn. SEC has some good teams but the “ranked gauntlet narrative” is overblown as they seem to get lower tiered teams ranked.

Of course it's an exhibition game and all that, yada yada But This team shot 25% from 3 and found a way to beat Baylor (#17 in KenPom) in a game where both teams were competing til the end. I'm excited to see what Dorn can add. Also looking forward to Alex, Drake, and Harris getting healthy so we have real depth. We will probably drop some frustrating games this year but I think it's going to be the most fun season of IUBB in a while.

The improved free throw shooting is SO NICE. The Leal and Galloway 50/50 free throw adventure nearly did me in.

Conerway and Enright are defensive predators. And Tucker is gonna play in the league; he’s got old man game maturity. The guy is 100% an alpha.

But this is not some James Madison-style Cinderella story. It’s a veteran group that won’t play above the rim, but will shoot the lights out now and then. And this group won’t get rattled when they’re down; even when shots aren’t falling. Like today… so far. If this were a real game and I were Baylor? I’d be damn concerned to be up only five given the open looks IU missed.

The last 10 minutes were significantly better than the first 10 minutes. Heat up from 3 in the second, and this game is there for the taking.

While you may or may not be right, maybe just a little early to put a fork in the roster and the season? Especially given that it’s currently a six point game in the first half of an exhibition against a ranked opponent? Check that… down five at half. Our veteran team did not get rattled when down 12–they adjusted. Now let’s get some of those great three point looks to fall!

Raby blames the third party entity running the event. Overpriced tickets for an exhibition game and being played on the same day as the Colts are at home. My $.02 is many of our fans are just too jaundiced from the Archie and Woody eras coupled with a whole new coaching staff and players. No carryover familiarity effect. Just gonna take some time to get people really enthused about IUBB again.

Being penalized for believing in the Hoosiers the most is disappointing.

Watching all the CFB recap shows and seeing our 56-6 win is satisfying. Listening to the talking heads comment on it with things like “Indiana just taking care of business” makes this mornings coffee taste that much better. I love the smell of 50 pt beatdowns in the morning

The moment in this game where I truly saw that IU has turned the corner on being a modern college basketball team was when they broke the press and DeVries drained a 3 in rhythm in transition. Beautiful to see. I’m sure they will have some growing pains this year however seeing that play brought a smile to my face. My favorite play of the exhibition
